What do these "Requires:" messages in rpmbuild mean?
by Yaakov Nemoy
Hi list,
As the subject so eloquently state, what do these messages mean? I
haven't used rpmbuild in several months, so it's likely some nuance
has changed. Is it some dependency I forgot to declare?
Requires(rpmlib): rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(VersionedDependencies)
<= 3.0.3-1
Requires: libc.so.6 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1)

useradd to create home directory?
by Jerry Williams
I am looking for a way to create the home directory and populate it with the
shell profiles.
Normally I would use useradd, but it breaks when you use NIS or LDAP or
winbind.
It would be nice if useradd had an option that would say yes I know this
account exits in LDAP, just make the home directory and fill it with the
normal stuff and don't put anything in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow.
I guess I am asking for an enhancement to useradd.
Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Board nominations
by Paul W. Frields
A few weeks after the release of Fedora 9, it will be once again time
for Fedora Project Board elections[1]. This time around, as you may have
heard[2], we have shifted our composition to five elected seats out of
nine, instead of the previous four.
Are you someone who thinks a lot about Fedora’s impact on society and
the world? Do you love reading books about open standards and the
free/remix culture? Do you want to work on big-picture issues as opposed
to technical details? Has the time you’ve spent working in the Fedora
Project brought you an appreciation for all the things our contributor
community does? Then you might be just the sort of person who’s
interested in a seat on the Board.
The job of the Board is to advise and guide the Fedora Project, as laid
out on its wiki page[3]. We try to make sure that Fedora is at all times
living up to its mission of the advancement of free and open source
software, and that we are doing so in an open, transparent way. Board
membership carries with it a responsibility to the community to deal
with thorny issues, to anticipate and serve the needs of our
contributors, and to stay true to the principles on which the Project is
founded. In return, you have unlimited cosmic power!
That last part is not really true. In fact, the Board doesn’t really
have resources of its own — it’s the Board’s job to guide and advise,
and convince other Fedora contributors of the right path to follow. It
can be difficult work, but it’s rewarding to see the growth of Fedora
worldwide as a reminder of how far we’ve come, and how far we’ve yet to
go.
If you are interested, you can simply nominate yourself by posting a
message to the fedora-advisory-board list[4], and please cc: me as well.
Election dates have not been set yet, but you can expect that
announcement very shortly.

libgtkmozembed.so
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I'm still trying to find out why monodevelop is kicking up a stink over
not allowing it's text editor to work. The last three things I can see
is that MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME is not defined, inotify is using a smaller
value and that libgtkmozembed.so is missing.
From what I can see, this used to be in firefox-devel, possibly should
be in thunderbird, possibly in seamonkey and maybe in xulrunner. It's in
none of them.
Does anyone know where is should be so that I can try and eliminate that
as the cause?

Orphaning package
by Alain PORTAL
Hi,
As I get too many conflicts, first with the french translation team six month
ago, second with some Redhat people, today, with a big head (as several
people in the french translation team), I make the decision to definitevely
leave the Fedora Extras Team.
So, as I merged some useful software in Fedora, I hope somebody would continue
on them.
Most of them are electronics relative.
- fcron [1]
- gputils
- gpsim
- gtk+extras
- kicad
- kbackup
- pikdev
- piklab
- pikloops
- utrac
- tetex-euro-font
Hope I don't miss somebody.
I'll delete also in a few days my man-pages-fr repository, as the Redhat
packager never consider me again.
And as we say in the french navy: « Bon vent, bonne mer »
No more regards than you give me.
Alain

Wanted: (Co-)maintainer for Kronolith
by Lubomir Kundrak
Hi,
It has came to my attention, that maintainer of kronolith has been
unresponsive for some time.
Jan Ondrej (thanks to him) has upgraded kronolith to fix a security
flaw, but since he does not actually use Kronolith he did not do much
testing. I am wondering whether anyone would volunteer to help with the
maintaining package.
Note that in case maintainer won't start to responds, he's unlikely to
accept watchcommits, or watchbugzilla changes in FAS. In that case
Non-Responsive Maintainer procedure would probably have to be applied
[1].
