F38 proposal: Restore stricter SSH hostkeys permissions (System-Wide

== Detailed Description ==
Many years ago we implemented the patch

Unfortunately, as it was 11 years ago, we can't find the exact
explanation where did the requirement come from. We think that we
intended to increase security, but it probably caused more confusion
than gain of the security over the years.
The patch allows have more relaxed permissions for the private keys
than upstream OpenSSH permits - 0640 instead of 0600, and the key file
must belong to the ssh_keys group. The ssh_keysign utility was
simultaneously changed from suid root to sgid ssh_keys.
The side effect of this solution is that ssh with hostbased auth (HBA)
started to fail after changing group ID ( with newgrp, etc.). In case
of HBA ssh invokes ssh-keysign that does a lot of sanity checks
including groups checks. The workaround is returning setuid bit
instead of sgid, and we recommend it to our clients.

As this problem affects several clients, and it is a deviation from
upstream (the similar patch was rejected by upstream), we want to drop
this downstream patch in Fedora. We also can get rid of a designated
ssh_keys group

The problem we expect is that after implementing the change we can
lose the remote access to the hosts because sshd will reject starting
because of group reading permissions. This should be covered by
upgrade script, though we still may come across some issues,
especially if you use host keys in non-standard location.
There is possible risk with config mgmt tools like puppet/ansible,
that might be managing SSH host keys and their permissions/ownership.

remain remotely accessable via SSH.

Starting Flatpak SIG

Hi all,
I would like to kick of a Fedora Flatpak Packaging SIG that meets
regularly and has IRC meetings.
Our flatpaks have gotten some bad rep recently and I think for a good
reason. We don't have a lot of them and we only have a handful of people
working on them. We also have a fairly obvious conflict of interest with
Flathub and a bunch of Fedora people are doing flatpaks in Flathub
instead of Fedora and advocating against using Fedora flatpaks.
Here's an attempt to try to get more people involved :) The awkward
situation here is that I am not 100% convinced myself that we should
continue doing Fedora flatpaks, but maybe with a bit more organization
around this we can get some more eyes on the problem and solve some of
the issues.
Please put your name in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Flatpak if
you are interested and I'll try to organize a poll for a weekly meeting
time. I'd suggest to start the meetings on the second week of January
when the holidays are over.
I've added a few people to CC that I thought might be interested in
this, but anyone that has interest in the area is more than welcome to join.
Some questions I have around organization: Can someone help register the
#fedora-flatpaks IRC channel under the Fedora umbrella? I am not sure
how to best do that. Does matrix need any special sauce to get a room?
What would be a good name for a pagure.io project?
pagure.io/fedora-flatpaks or pagure.io/fedora-flatpak-sig or
pagure.io/flatpak-sig or something else?
Do we need a mailing list? My initial gut feeling is no, but I'm
interested in what other people think.

Fedora 35 End Of Life in one week

Hello all,
Fedora 35 will go end of life for updates and support on 2022-12-13
No further updates, including security updates, will be
available for Fedora 35 after the said date. All the updates of Fedora
N being pushed to stable will be stopped as well.
Fedora 36 will continue to receive updates until approximately one
month after the release of Fedora 37. The maintenance schedule of
Fedora releases is documented on the Fedora Project wiki [0]. The
fedora Project wiki also contains instructions [1] on how to upgrade
from a previous release of Fedora to a version receiving updates.

I count as converted even all rubygem-* packages (509 pkgs) and all rust-* packages (2007 pkgs) - ecosystem maintainers
will hand them seperately.
That means 9305 license tags has been converted so far. That is big change from 3 weeks ago where we had only 437. Part
of this big change can be the difference in script that count it. Now I try to validate the license according the old
rule and the new rule. If the old one is invalid and the new one is valid I assume that it is new package and already
has the SPDX format.
You rocks in converting the tags. You converted almost 7k tags in just 3 weeks!

If your package is not listed there, then I assume it is SPDX.
If your package is listed there without any comment, then you still need to convert it, but `license-fedora2spdx` does
not give straight answer.
If your package is like:

|then you can easily convert your license tag to this string.|
|If your package is like:|
| abattis-cantarell-fonts warning: not valid as calaway nor as SPDX, please check

|then your license string is not valid using both old and new rules. But there is a lot of false negative - especially
the *-fonts because they declare the license using macro, which I am unable to process (yet).|

[Review] level-zero and openpgl

is an optional dependency for Blender starting for 3.4.x release.

Policy on supporting old and external software packages and compat
RPMS

Hi,
With the latest release of Fedora37 we were hit with an issue where the
ncurses-compat-libs RPM had been depreciated. Due to this some of the
tools we use would no longer install from their respective RPM's or
their tar based installs would not run as they needed the
libncurses*5.so shared libraries.
We use a number of software packages for Electronics and Software
development, some of which are developed by organisations and companies
outside of Fedora. This includes things like ARM GCC compilers, FPGA
compilers, PCB tools, manufacturers utilities etc. Many of these are
built for Redhat7, being a good general and stable base Linux system for
these companies/organisations to target. There are a few shared
libraries that are commonly used and ncurses is one of these.
I am wondering what Fedora's policy is on depreciated old shared
libraries and particularly compat RPM's ?
If there isn't one, for the benefit of users and making Fedora OS more
generally useful, can I suggest that relatively often used compat RPMS
are kept available at least while a major base system such as Redhat7 is
still widely used as a build platform for external
companies/organisations and/or perhaps for at least 15? years (or some
defined time) after they become compat RPM's ?

OpenVPN 2.6 Beta released

Hi,
This is just a heads-up that the OpenVPN community has released
OpenVPN 2.6 beta 1.
While this release includes several nice new features, one important one
requires more attention - Kernel based Data Channel Offload (DCO). The
DCO support has already been available in the OpenVPN 3 Linux project
for quite some time already, but with OpenVPN 2.6 the performance boost
can now be more noticeable as this also includes full server support.

F39 proposal: Boost 1.81 upgrade (System-Wide Change proposal)

This change brings Boost 1.81 to Fedora. This will mean Fedora ships
with a recent upstream Boost release.

== Detailed Description ==
The aim is to synchronize Fedora with the most recent Boost release.
Because ABI stability is absent from Boost, this entails rebuilding of
all dependent packages. This also entails the change owner assisting
maintainers of client packages in decoding cryptic boost-ese seen in
output from g++.

== Benefit to Fedora ==
Fedora 39 includes Boost 1.81.
Fedora will stay relevant, as far as Boost clients are concerned.
Boost 1.81 does not bring any new components, but includes one new
header-only library -
* URL: Boost.URL is a portable C++ library which provides containers
and algorithms which model a URL.
Boost 1.81 also includes many fixes and enhancements to existing
components, including major and potentially
breaking changes to -
* Container Hash: removal of specializations to boost::hash, removal
of support for BOOST_HASH_NO_EXTENSION, improved performance and
quality of generated hashes.
* Locale: Removal of C++03 support, C++11 or later is now required
(BREAKING CHANGE)
Boost 1.81 includes additional enhancements and breaking changes from
Boost 1.80 and Boost 1.79 -
* Filesystem: boost/filesystem/string_file.hpp header is deprecated
and no longer included by boost/filesystem.hpp
* GIL: Deprecates C++11 support, C++14 will be the new minimum
language standard.
* Math: Deprecates C++11 support, C++14 will be the new minimum
language standard.
* Multiprecision: Deprecates C++11 support, C++14 will be the new
minimum language standard.
== Scope ==
* Proposal owners:
** Build will be done with Boost.Build v2 (which is the
upstream-sanctioned way of building Boost)

== Upgrade/compatibility impact ==
* No manual configuration or data migration needed.
* Some impact on other packages needing code changes to rebuild.
Historically this hasn't been too much of a problem and could always
be resolved before deadline.
== How To Test ==
* No special hardware is needed.
* Integration testing simply consists of installing Boost packages
(`dnf install boost`) on Fedora and checking that it does not break
other packages (see below for a way to obtain a list of boost
clients).
== User Experience ==
* Expected to remain largely the same.
* Developers building third-party software on Fedora may need to
rebuild against the new Boost packages, and may need to adjust their
code if the new Boost release is not source-compatible.
