I had assumed (wrongly) that mount was smart enough that for something so critical as mounting / it would just ignore a bad option. Wrong.
IMO, this should REALLY be fixed.
No, mount reasonably assumes that if a user is fiddling about with mount options for the root file system then user can resolve an unbootable system because option is bad.
