xmlbeans [1,2] got retired because of lack of maitainers. It's used by diffoscope now, so I'm thinking about adopting it. Any major reasons not to? Fedora was at 2.6.0, upstream is now at 3.1.0, so it'd be definitely some effort to update...

Huh, I thought this project was retired upstream.... I'm curious what you need it for
It seems to be alive again, latest version was released a few months ago (https://xmlbeans.apache.org/download/). It's now under under the apache poi umbrella.
Some of the scripts in xmlbeans-scripts are used by diffoscope. I don't know the details.
