If you don't have the time to find out, *as a maintainer*, what changed, you shouldn't be maintaining it.

I get whatever is in the git changlogs. That's all that's available. If I choose to mention something important from it I will, otherwise I will just mention a new upstream version Just like Debian packages do. I see no reason to be any different.
