radeonfb kernel switch no longer works?

On amd64 with radeon 8500, dmesg:

Bootdata ok (command line is root=/dev/hda5 
video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@100)
Linux version 2.6.12-1.1437_FC5 
([e-mail]) (gcc version 4.0.1 
20050720 (Red Hat 4.0.1-4)) #1 SMP Mon
Jul 25 18:21:05 EDT 2005
.............

This used to give console output at 1024x768. Even a couple 
of weeks ago, maybe. Now I get a vga display.

Have the kernel switches changed?

You have to load the module, as well, but as far as I know that's always
been true.
