festival can be made to work with alsa and/or PA by adding
(Parameter.set 'Audio_Command "aplay $FILE")
(Parameter.set 'Audio_Method 'Audio_Command)
(Parameter.set 'Audio_Required_Format 'snd)
to /etc/festival/siteinit.scm. I've filed a bug to get this into the
package before F10.
