Hi.
I just want to ask how do you think about this question: Will it be anyhow possible to create an _official_ version of a kde livecd for test3? If Max's proposal [1] should come true (and assuming that nobody else is working on this that I am not aware of) we really _need_ at least two test versions.
With the last changes to livecd-creator I was able to create a working (and installable) livecd for kde (read: working for me). I think it would be essentially to get some some feedback. ATM the feedback could be much better. Sure: I have some issues that could be done better or that are not working at the moment. But for a test1 of a kde-livecd this should be ok.
The current kickstart file for F7-Test3-KDE is attached. If you want to create this, have a look at the wiki [2]. Also the current package list must be discussed [3].
Some comments about the kickstart file:
# create /etc/sysconfig/desktop (needed for installation) cat > /etc/sysconfig/desktop <<EOF DESKTOP="KDE" DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE" EOF
Due to a bug in anaconda [4] (should be fixed in cvs but haven't tried it yet) KDE is not the standard desktop after an installation. It must be choosed manually after first boot.
# /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/zz-liveinst.sh is confusing kde on login # so remove it for now rm -f /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/zz-liveinst.sh
current version breaks livecd-login [5]. This must also be done after installation. So this is just a workaround for this. Just as this one:
# workaround to put liveinst on desktop (should not be needed but # /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/zz-liveinst from anaconda doesn't do this atm) cat > /home/fedora/.kde/Autostart/liveinst <<END #! /bin/bash cp /usr/share/applications/liveinst.desktop /home/fedora/Desktop/ sed -i 's/NoDisplay=true/NoDisplay=false/' /home/fedora/Desktop/liveinst.desktop END
chmod +x /home/fedora/.kde/Autostart/liveinst
If somebody knows a better solution to get an icon for liveinst on the desktop: Please let me know!
And also there is the earlier mentioned issue:
- minor issue: messagebus complains about an username "gdm"
And for the moment (until kdenetwork is splitted up): - on laptops kwifimanager is also started (besides knetworkmanager)
At this point I really want to thank David Zeuthen and especially Jeremy Katz for their great help and their fast responses to my mails and bug reports.
Sebastian

Yes. The more eyes, testers, feedback, the better.
I'd even settle for unofficial status if the sucker has to be hosted elsewhere (but I hope it won't come to that). :)

thank you, Rex. I'd appreciate having Fedora-KDE too.

So I think, too. Especially the "look & feel" of KDE needs some testing.

I would prefer an official created and shipped one. But if this is not possible an unofficial one would be better than no one.

I always thought of what you were doing as "official". We havent really figured out how to classify spins that different folks will do yet but KDE spin (and live CD) it part of the Fedora 7 plan already. Rex, do bring it up in the next board meeting to confirm.

In the past I was not thinking that my work would be viewed as "official". I myself was thinking that it would only prepare the ground to an official KDE-LiveCD. But this may have changed. I'm glad that I don't have the time atm to worry about that. :)

An interesting question here would be if localized versions of the KDE-LiveCD would be official or unofficial ones. The normal version could not include all languages so it's up to the local commnities to create this ones. ATM I'm also working to create a template for this localized versions to make the creation as easy as possible. I myself would create a german version (so I think atm). But this ones would be not really testet (at least for the localized part) so I think they should be unofficial.

Definitely seems like the reasonable thing to do and a practical thing as well. For the final, we[1] should probably have a discussion on how to have the spin done and hosted but for the purposes of getting test3 out in a reasonable timeframe, I'll go ahead and add doing the KDE spin to the list of things that I'm doing today.

Ok. I've attached my last version.
