Do you want to make Fedora 35 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time and try to run:
# Run this only if you use default Fedora modules # next time you run any DNF command default modules will be enabled again sudo dnf module reset '*'
sudo dnf --releasever=35 --setopt=module_platform_id=platform:f35 \
--enablerepo=updates-testing --enablerepo=updates-testing-modular \
distro-sync
This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal potential problems.
You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.
If you get this prompt:
... Total download size: XXX M Is this ok [y/N]:
you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual upgrade.
But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case, please report it against the appropriate package.
Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 35. Please check existing reports against
fedora-obsolete-packages first:
and also there is already bunch of "Fails to install" (F35FailsToInstall) reports:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=1927313&bug_id_type=andde...
Thank you Miroslav

Arduino was orphaned and then retired due to lack of maintainer. Looking at dhcp's pagure repo, the dhcp-compat subpackage was dropped recently.

I think I proposed this during the last round of updates, can we add "--assumeno" to this command line, to avoid potential unintended updates?

From qt5-qtbase changelog it looks like this package was disabled due to Firebird FTBFS on s390x which was later fixed.
So probably qt5-qtbase maintainers (Cc-ed) need to enable it back.

Local site content is not managed by Fedora. That's a local user's content. Similar to generic dynamic libraries in /usr/local/lib64.
that just needs rebuilding for F35's perl stuff)
Because new Perl is not binary compatible to the old one. If Fedora did not change local site path for each new Perl, Fedora delivered software could crash in the user-supplied incompatible code.
Perl maintainers pondered whether to keep a pure-Perl site code, comparing to a binary XS code, in an invariant path, and decided to keep them togegher in a changing path. The reason is a possible unsatisfied dependencies. E.g. a pure-Perl module requires an XS module.
Unfortunatelly Fedora cannot provide any tools for automatically rebuilding the user's site content because Fedora has no clue how and were from the user populated the site content.

For 0ad, I see that 0.0.25b-1 was pushed to testing in F33 and F34 but not in F35 yet. Not sure if it's a FTBFS there at the moment.
eclipse has been retired IIRC, so I guess that's the issue here.

Yeah, the "main" eclipse package has been retired, but other packages in the stack had not been. As discussed in the "Orphaned packages need new maintainers" thread, I have now gone ahead and retired the remaining eclipse packages: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/... And also filed a bug against fedora-obsolete-packages to have those packages removed on upgrade to Fedora 35.

I'm aware of that, which is why I didn't bother including it on the list. I only mentioned it because starting the list with "problem 2" may lead to questions about what happened to problem 1.
The other 13 or so problems, however, are purely with fedora-supplied PHP packages, which is why I _did_ include them in my report of the upgrade failure.

This line repeats a lot in your output. I think you will get forward with this if you figure out what happened to php-imap in Fedora 34 and, whatever that was, how to recover from it.

Yeah, it looks like the php-imap package was dropped in the F34 testing cycle due to an issue that probably only needed a simple rebuild to fix:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1929640
...but it was not added to the fedora-obsolete-packages list. Remi is building it in his own external PHP repositories, so it's clear there's nothing inherently broken about it:
https://fedora.pkgs.org/34/remi-x86_64/php-imap-7.4.23-1.fc34.remi.x86_64.rp...
There's been a bugzilla ticket open since June about this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1971202
I rely on php-imap for authentication purposes on a _lot_ (using php packages that remain included with Fedora!) so this is actually a major blocking issue for me.

Yeah, it looks like the php-imap package was dropped in the F34 testing cycle due to an issue that probably only needed a simple rebuild to fix:
If I remember correctly, the problem was in uw-imap, which was abandoned and removed from Fedora: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/uw-imap/c/ba748fd8f4697d79cf54a4b8a488f95...
php-imap is just a wrapper around uw-imap, and as a result was removed, too. In other words, it's not only a question of rebuilding, as dependencies for php-imap are no longer in Fedora.
I rely on php-imap for authentication purposes on a _lot_ (using php packages that remain included with Fedora!) so this is actually a major blocking issue for me.
Time to start migration to non-abandoned solution :(

Well, crap.
Fortunately the mostly-braindead Net_IMAP PEAR module will do what I need..
Time to start auditing the php stuff I have deployed everywhere.

This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal potential problems.
You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command.
If you get this prompt:

you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual upgrade.
But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case, please report it against the appropriate package.
Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 35. Please check existing reports against

perl-Mozilla-LDAP was retired, so the bug would be against fedora-obsolete-packages. (But I assume all packages mentioned in this thread will be harvested for f-o-p, so there should be no need to file the bug.)

I didnt log the error messages but when rebasing Fedora Silverblue, there was an issue that I encountered:
In Silverblue 34 I had at some point clicked "enable workstation repositories" in Gnome Software and forgotten about it. This added a layer with the relevant rpms.
As this rpm is now in the main compose, rebasing streams caused problems. I had to reset the Fedora 34 install to not include the layered packages before rebasing.
As the prompt was from the GUI, I suspect a lot of Silverblue users will hit this.
other than that it was a smooth upgrade.
This is F34 with 5041 packages. I think people alrady reported arduino-core and gnuradio, I reported the gqrx libboost/boost_thread issue

I'd say that's impressively few conflicts. Seems much better than the transition to F34 at the same part in the release cycle.

Error: Problem: package ant-apache-log4j-1.10.9-2.fc34.noarch requires ant = 1.10.9-2.fc34, but none of the providers can be installed - ant-1.10.9-2.fc34.noarch does not belong to a distupgrade repository - problem with installed package ant-apache-log4j-1.10.9- 2.fc34.noarch (try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages)
I removed ant-apache-log4j - nothing else was removed at the same time. Should I be reporting an issue?
If you get this prompt: ... Total download size: XXX M Is this ok [y/N]: you can answer N and nothing happens, no need to test the actual upgrade. But very likely you get some dependency problem now. In that case, please report it against the appropriate package. Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 35. Please check existing reports against fedora-obsolete-packages first: https://red.ht/2kuBDPu
and also there is already bunch of "Fails to install" (F35FailsToInstall) reports: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=1927313&bug_id_type=andde... I get several errors related to Qubes OS. Most of them are cases that will need to be fixed by the Qubes OS team, but the lack of an upgrade candidate for PulseAudio is concerning, as Qubes OS currently ships a PulseAudio module for sound support in VMs. Is there a replacement for PulseAudio modules in Fedora 35? Some sort of PipeWire plugin?
Sincerely,

What module are you using? It may have been reimplemented in PipeWire, and if not, you should ask upstream at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues
