I only see it in weird 16-bit DOS self extracting archives from Taiwanese manufacturers. =(

Japanese government publishes archives of official documents in lha format. That's popular here..
But I know Japanese standard is not global standard, global standard is not Japanese standard - how is this in your countries? zip?

Well, Winzip will unpack it. And a lha-archive may contain viruses. So the use case is: virus scanners. And yes, I do find a few lha-packed viruses in my logs :)

There is probably much more stuff installed on my system that never gets used. Could be that I added this by hand (I usually just add all archivers).
