CD version gone?

Hi,

I noticed there is only a LiveCD and a DVD iso of the test version
available on the mirrors. I need to be able to install Fedora without
a dvd drive and essentially without an internet connection -- the lack
of CD isos is a big problem for me. This is related to volunteer work
I do for a organization out in the country with older computers. One
consequence of this is that I am unable to test F7test4 on some of my
computers (I will try the LiveCD though).

Will there be a CD version available for F7? I'm sure I'm not the only
person who would need a CD version.

The Live CD's are installable. Does that not serve your purpose?

packages I need (the ones not on the LiveCD) on a CD, the problem
being that in the past this is usually a trial-and-error process of
finding out that x requires y requires z, downloading them all
separately and putting them on disc (where hypothetically more than
one disc could be required during a single transaction -- does yum
handle this?) etc.

Media handling? There is some amount of support for this. There was 
references in the Pirut changelog. I haven't had time to test this out yet.

That could be a huge problem for me.  I have no DVD drives, and several
production fc6 machines with heavy reliance on things that would
traditionally have been on CD 4 or 5, or in (the artist formerly known as)
Extras.  I suppose yum based upgrades are still offically unsupported?

Is there a way users could spin their own CD set, with all packages, using
only FC6 and yum?

The docs state that it isn't. A LiveCD would be too small for my purposes.

What about yum upgrades?  I've done them for all my machines from FC3
onwards with minor hiccups.  Will the new PATA system cause me fstab
headaches?

I don't think that's right; the PATA drivers in FC7 are modules rather 
than being compiled into the kernel, and will hence need an appropriate 
entry in modprobe.conf making so that the initrd includes the necessary 
module(s). Anaconda will do this but I don't think anything in the yum 
upgrade process will take care of this.

mkinitrd is actually pretty smart about this these days; the entries in
modprobe.conf are used as hints to ordering more than anything else

If I can be reasonably sure that I can upgrade fedora-release, run yum
upgrade, reboot, and have all my drives show up, I'm happy.  I;ve just
really loved upgrading with yum, because it minimizes downtime.  Add to
that the flaky CD drives on some of my machines, and you see why this is
important.  To me, at least.

Are there any precautions I should take?

Do the computers have USB? If so, you could load a DVD image on an external 
drive. They're getting pretty cheap now.
