Slow X on x86_64

I'm having a problem with an install of FC3 on an Opteron machine.  The
X performance is deadly slow; glxgears gives me less than 53 FPS.  On a
similarly x86 32-bit machine I'm getting well over 500 FPS.  It's the
same with both a Matrox G550 and an ATI Radeon 9200 card.

Seems to be a problem with drm and dri initialization.

Anyone else seeing this?

I've added to a bugzilla bug that seems to be on target.  There are
errors and xorg.conf snippets there.  Interestingly, it seems that it
isn't x86_64 specific.

Maxtrox at least was 32bit only for DRI until very recently. Radeon should
be working. Mine does anyway 8)

No help for you really, but I've stuck with all nvidia cards and I've
never had a problem on x86_64.  (~glxgears 9000 fps, mmm...)
