Latest rawhide install as of this morning, and am running into a volume control situation. It seems that the icon in the panel is muted and/or won't show a volume control. And the error message is something like below...
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
Yet if I do a detect sound card, it finds it (SB Audigy LS?) and plays the sample sound just fine.
Any ideas?

I noticed this in my logs this morning, that might have to do with this?

Hmm. PulseAudio is unable to open your audio device. Are you sure it is properly available in the system? Could you please run "pulsaudio -vv"? And check whether "aplay -D hw:0 /dev/urandom" works?

Here is all I can see in modprobe.conf on audio..
options snd-card-0 index=0 options snd-ca0106 index=0
Maybe mine isn't found as there is nothing else on sound?

Try "pulseaudio -k" first to shut down the running instance.

Apparently there is no sound card detected at all.
Please check wheter anything is listed in /proc/asound/cards. Check if you plugged everything in correctly.
PulseAudio is not going to make your sound magically work if your sound card is not recognized at all by the Linux kernel.

Thanks for helping out so far. And as I stated originally (or I left it out), if I run the "Soundcard Detection" program, it finds the card as well as on board sound (SiS MB), and I can hear the sample sound it plays (speakers are pluggined into the Audigy SE card not the onboard).
So I don't get why it's not being picked up otherwise.

I ran into this error message setting up pulseaudio on an F7 system when I was trying to run the pulseaudio daemon system-wide. In my case, it was because /dev/snd/* wasn't readable by the daemon (which runs under the user "pulse" when running in system-wide mode). Not sure if this might be your problem.

root is owner/group of that path, so not sure what pulse is running under or if that is the problem.

Looks like same problem, not sure. I have cc'd myself on the list as well as posted my pulseaudio -vv output.

Do you by any chance have a USB MIDI device plugged in?
I've noticed that a MIDI-only device still takes up a card slot, and USB devices get detected first. Thus upon every boot, if I forget to unplug or turn off my MIDI keyboard, it takes card slot 0, the motherboard audio ends up in slot 1, and sound output is basically fucked as everything tries to output to the MIDI keyboard, which doesn't do PCM.
This is on Fedora 7. Maybe pulseaudio actually fixes this.
