Given this, I'd like to advocate again for two main tracks with shorter
talks -- aim for 20 minutes plus 10 for questions.
And I'd like to see at least one day with _just_ those talks with no
workshops. This day can focus on the top-interest talks where we don't want
anyone to miss out by being pulled in a different direction.
I feel like one of the big problems we have as a project is not enough
cross-communication, and it's nice to have as many people sharing the common
experience as possible. I know that not everyone is interested in every
topic, but that's the other benefit of having them be shorter than typical
-- just wait, and something else will come around, and maybe you'll find it
to be more interesting than you expected.
These were exactly my words when we were checking the rooms yesterday.
At least the first day should be about fewer tracks and most important
talks.
If we do all the important talks on the first day we can actually move
completely to the building with smaller rooms for the rest of the
conference and have 4-5 tracks of smaller talks/workshops/sessions there
on the day #2, 3, and 4. We would avoid the inconvenient pendling
between the buildings and also save money because we could rent the big
rooms for just one day.
If I'm not mistaken in the building with smaller rooms there is a larger
room for 50-60 ppl which could be available to us if we need something
mid-sized.
