--- Additional comment from mkasik(a)redhat.com on 2010-02-16 10:31:12 EST ---
Hi,
this is an issue with fontconfig. The PDF uses "ZapfDingbats" font, but there
is "Zapf Dingbats" font only.
This can be bypassed by setting of ~/.fonts.conf (or /etc/font/local.conf)
according to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21395#c6.
=> reassigning to fontconfig
Regards
Marek

Ubuntu's 10.10 /etc/fonts/
Description of problem:
Font rendering on Fedora 14 is poor compared to Ubuntu 10.10. If one uses
Ubuntu's /etc/fonts/ directory (that's it, fontconfig package) we would see
inmediatly a drastic improvement in font rendering.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Editing a text file in gedit.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make use of any application which contains a text box.
2.
3.
Actual results:
Poor rendering of fonts.
Expected results:
A good rendering.
Additional info:
I attach a .tar file which contains the directory /etc/fonts/ as provided by
Ubuntu 10.10.
If you want to test this just make a backup of your /etc/fonts directory, and
extract the file fonts-ubuntu.tar in /etc/.

As previously discussed, and approved by FPC and FESCO, common font packaging
stuff has been moved to the fontpackages package.
The filesystem maintainer has been asked to release the corresponding
directories in bug #477046
Please rebuild fontconfig against fontpackages-devel to pick up the directory
names it defines in macros, and depend on fontpackages-filesystem that owns the
directories.
I'll add /etc/fonts to fontpackages to avoid circular deps with fontconfig ASAP

Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
Chromium OS includes new fonts called Arimo, Cousine, and Tinos. These fonts
are, in fact, identical in design to the the Liberation fonts; more accurately,
they're new font files direct from Steve Matteson using the same character
designs as Liberation. However, these fonts include a vastly larger character
set, including such glyphs as Polytonic Greek, Altaic Cyrillic and IPA that
might be useful for certain locales.
The latest revision of the Chromium fonts, as of now, is downloadable here:
http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromeos-localmirror/distfiles/cr...
And the relevant issues from Chromium OS are here:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium-os/issues/detail?id=5287
http://code.google.com/p/chromium-os/issues/detail?id=5941
Would it be possible to work with Google and/or Steve Matteson to get these new
characters merged into the Liberation fonts as well?
