Rewriting Lohit-Gujarati open type tables, plans for improvement !!
by Pravin Satpute
Hi All,
As written in previous email following are the improvements we can
do in lohit-gujarati
1. Following AGL while renaming lohit-gujarati
2. Feature file separate as done in lohit-devanagari
3. There are some cons_halant ligatures introduced (0x0139 to 0x15a), i
am sure those got added due to some bugs w.r.t pango etc. So we can get
rid of it.
4. Supporting "gujr" and "guj2" Opent type tag
5. Thorough testing with Harfbuzz and Uniscribe (will test with Windows
XP as well to make sure webfonts will render correctly everywhere)
This is presently what we are thinking, if anyone has more
suggestions with this do reply.
Thanks & Regards,
Pravin Satpute

Fonts with default Fedora installation
by pravin.d.s@gmail.com
Hi,
Recently i done packaging of google-noto-fonts [1] for Fedora. With this
font we got number of new script fonts of Unicode which were not available
earlier. [2]
Just done editing of comps file and my question is out of these script
fonts how many we suppose to install by default.
Presently we are following like at least one fonts for each script should
be available with default installation, so if anyone while browsing web etc
can get correct rendering for his script.
But here issue is supporting whole Unicode with default installation will
be too much.
Might be we should only install fonts for BMP of Unicode and lets have
other fonts installed by users when required (we do have feature in Fedora
where if any fonts are not installed by default fontconfig search for
particular script fonts.)
I have done comps editing by keeping above thing in mind. If anyone have
other suggestion please let me know.
Best Regards,
Pravin Satpute

Announcing Alpha release 2.91.0 of lohit-devanagari from lohit2 project
by Pravin Satpute
Hi All,
It took more time than i thought initial but happy that now we are
clear with most of the things (feature file, AGL guidelines). Completely
rewritten Open type tables lohit-devanagari is now available.
Silent feature of this.
1. Supporting dev2 and deva both.
2. Following AGL
3. Feature file (Open type table) is separate than .sfd file. (Though i
have kept Open type tables in .sfd file as well but while building ttf
we import rules from .fea file)
4. Tested with Harfbuzz and Windows8 Uniscribe version (Will test with
other older platform before Beta release)
5. test-devanagari.txt is available (Dunno should we provide .pdf may be)
Updated lohit project page [1] with the download links and other
information
This is alpha release so need contribution for testing this. I will
soon build this for Fedora 20 and request some people using Devanagari
script regular to install this version. I will recommend to report bugs
on github [2], Fedora specifics bug can go to Fedora bugzilla [3]
Thanks for people supporting and contributing in this.
Best Regards,
Pravin Satpute
