Bugzilla - Fedora Core or Raw Hide
by Alex Kiernan
When entering bugs against the development tree, should they be
entered against Raw Hide or Fedora?
I've mostly been using Raw Hide, but there's a few instances where
I've ended up putting in duplicates because there was the same or
similar bug in Fedora Core.

cracklib package incomplete
by Daniel Roesen
Hi,
while trying to build PHP --with-crack on a FC1 box, I noticed that
the cracklib package misses at least packer.h. When browsing Bugzilla,
I found this to be reported already:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=68339
Since 2002-07-09 this bug is in NEW state with noone caring obviously.
I always get some muddy feeling when I read Red Hat people comments
like "if it's not in Bugzilla, it's not there". This is not the first
instance where "even if it's in Bugzilla, it was just wasted time"
applies... :-(
The fix is a five-minute-job.
Regards,
Daniel

installing rawhide
by Alexander L. Belikoff
I know these questions are lame but I cannot seem to find any coherent
information on how to do it.
I'd like to install rawhide in order to participate in the process.
Unfortunately, I failed to locate any information on how to reliably perform
it. From bits and pieces here and there I found that it is theoretically
possible to upgrade FC1 to rawhide using yum. OK, I've configured yum as per
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-January/msg00206.html
(removed the original repository entries and added the ones in the message).
Unfortunately, 'yum -y update' constantly fails on unsatisfied dependencies.
To make the matters even more complicated, I'm trying to perform it on a live
system with relatively small disk space (about 2Gb free). I've ended up
running yum update on groups of packages to upgrade them one at a time but
this process is awefully time consuming and it doesn't guarantee full
upgrade. So the questions follow:
1. What is the recommended way to install rawhide (from an ISO or otherwise)?
1. Is there a reliable way to upgrade FC1 to rawhide (from an ISO or
otherwise)?
2. If there is no standard way, what would be the best way to do it?
3. Which one is recommended: yum or up2date?
Thanks in advance,

dbus in rawhide is the same as fc1. Any chance this sucker can be
updated to a current version?

Fine grained control of the %doc macro?
by Keith G. Robertson-Turner
I'm packaging a beta release where the tarball has a name like:
foobar-0.1.2-20040127.tar.bz2
(I have no control over the naming convention used upstream in this case)
### foobar.spec ###
%define beta 20040127
Name: foobar
Version: 0.1.2
Release: 0.repo.1
... snip ...
%prep
%setup -n %{name}-%{version}-%{beta}
... snip ...
######
When extracted, the directory contains docs in the following hierarchy:
ls -R .
.:
bar DOC1 DOC2 DOC3 foo
./bar:
DOC1 DOC2 DOC3
./foo:
DOC1 DOC2 DOC3
"make install" does *not* install any docs in this package.
Question 1) ... How can I control %doc to make it install to
%{_defaultdocdir}/%{name}-%{version}-%{beta} instead of
%{_defaultdocdir}/%{name}-%{version} ??
Question 2) ... How can I tell %doc to recreate the folder hierarchy as it
stands, with subdirectories?
If I can't do any of this with %doc, and I have to simply %{__install} all
the docs manually, then I'll have to remove %doc from the %files manifest
altogether ... which is B.A.D.® ... right?
TIA.

K.
