Hi,
mysql-administrator segfaults whenever I create a new schema (logged
in locally, as root).
Anybody else seeing this? I'm hunting in BZ right now...
Thanks,

Tips for Fedora Package Maintainers when issuing updates.
1) Push or Revoke Updates-Testing
=================================
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/testing/F7
Please don't forget to deal with your packages sitting in
updates-testing. Some packages were sitting here for more than a month.
Your Updates Testing package may be marked as "Stable" if they are ready
to be pushed as an official update. If you want to cancel an update, or
if it was superseded by a newer package, you will want to "Unpush" it.
2) EVR Version Problems
=======================
Currently F7 uses Bodhi (the Fedora Updates System) while FE-6 uses the
legacy Extras buildsystem. This can sometimes create EVR promotion
problems between the distributions. Example:
1) foo-1.2.3-1.fc7
foo-1.2.3-1.fc6
2) foo-1.2.4-1.fc7 is pushed to F7 updates-testing
foo-1.2.4-1.fc6 is built for FE-6
3) FC6 version of foo is "newer" than foo in F7, because the FC6 package
went directly into the repository while the F7 package is only in testing.
Suggested Workaround:
Build for FE6 only *after* the F7 update has been officially pushed.

Well the problem with 2.6.22 in Fedora Core 6 is that it will bring
some changes...
Actually eth1394.ko and libdc1394(-1) applications that are not
currently compatible with libdc1394-2 (with support for the new
firewire juju stack) will enter in regression...
Whereas users can possibly be aware of thoses regressions in Fedora 7,
some can be surprised of that in Fedora Core 6...
I don't mean we need to hold kernel update, but how can we prevent
thoses issues ?

Hi,
It seems python-elementtree is missing from F7 (and devel)! What is the
reason? Maybe I missed something?

Hello,
some of you may have read some wiki pages about the plans for the new init system [1]. As a first step in
this direction [2], I packaged prcsys from Mandriva, patched initscripts with a very small patch, and uploaded
the src.rpm to [3]. To enable parallel booting just build and install both packages and edit
/etc/sysconfig/init. Set PARALLEL_STARTUP=yes and there we go.
The next step would be to modify all initscripts in /etc/init.d to be LSB compliant [4]. This will speed up
booting, because they can and will be started in parallel. You should file bugzillas against the component, to
which this initscript belongs, with a patch (this has to be done anyway to be LSB compliant in regards to
initscripts over time). Especially the exit codes need to be fixed (which will make status queries a lot
easier and more robust).
Early login [5] is also a next step towards a "fast boot" user experience.
Alternatives to SysVInit (like upstart/initng) can live in Fedora as well, but we are very conservative in
changing the startup mechanism that proved to function for a long time now. Unless the "real" killer feature
is absolutly needed, we would like to keep backwards compatibility as long as possible.
I hope many of you try and test [3] and write patches to improve our service initscripts to be LSB compliant
:-) Parallel booting is the reward.
Happy testing,
Harald

Hello
I am currently studying python and am enjoying it quite well along the
way. I just happen to catch the update email today that pygtk2 is
updated today and I saw this in the email
Just about anything you can write in C with GTK+ you can write
in Python with PyGTK (within reason), but with all the benefits of
Python.
My main concern here is the (within reason) what exactly does this
mean ? Should I concentrate on another language instead of python. what
are the limitations ? Thanks for any ideas and advice.
