Heads up: kernel 2.6.23-0.14.rc0.git1.fc8 busted
by Jarod Wilson
With the transition to the new kernel rpm versioning scheme, we ended up
having to call things such as the pre-2.6.23-rc1 git kernels, which
upstream are 2.6.22-gitX, 2.6.23-rc0-gitX. However, I missed a tiny
detail, which leaves the kernel package showing 2.6.23, but the
resulting kernel's uname 2.6.22. Makes Bad Things happen with any kernel
in the 2.6.23-0.x.rc0.git1.fc8 range, where x is . Fixing now (in
theory, this is a simple fix by twiddling the kernel Makefile's
SUBLEVEL), will push a fixed build ASAP...

rawhide can't update because of anaconda (libdhcp4client-3.0.5.so.0)
by Valent Turkovic
Hi, I'm reporting rawhide update problem. I couldn't update my rawhide
system today and I isolated the problematic package and it is
anaconda.
When I removed 'yum remove anaconda' my system updated.
I can't install anaconda after the update because it has unresolved
dependencies (libdhcp4client-3.0.5.so.0).
Hope this helps.
Here are the logs:

Re: Rawhide debuginfo package problems 2007-07-16

The problem with that is that someone who runs 'debuginfo-install', even
once, is left with an un-upgradeable system, without manual intervention.

rawhide du jour installer can't load modules?
by Roland McGrath
Is the rawhide installer broken for loading modules? I tried a network
install on i386 & x86_64 using today's images, and it acted like no modules
worked. i.e., it didn't find the module for my NIC, and manual selection
of the right one (tg3) didn't behave any different.
I think this is with the rawhide kernel rpm whose uname -r says 2.6.22 but
its install uses 2.6.23, so maybe that is related. Or what?
It would be nice to have an installable rawhide.
Thanks,
Roland

squid and squidGuard
by Tim Spaulding
Hi Folks,
Is there a current maintainer for the squid and squidGuard packages? I'm configuring them on my
kid's pc and there are a number of suggestions/wish list items that I have compiled. What's the
best way to start working on this issue.
FWIW, I'm really surprised at how hard it is to get Fedora "kid safe" out of the box. (I'm
getting it done, but I can't imagine a casual user accomplishing this feat. It currently requires
a working understanding of web proxies and how unix user administration works.) Considering this
project's involvement with OLPC, I'm shocked that the web proxy/blacklist stuff isn't more
bullet-proof and easy to enable. Who did I need to talk to help fix this? Is the OLPC doing some
more advanced integration of kid safe web proxies?
Thanks,
Tim

Unpushing broken or obsolete updates from testing
by Kevin Kofler
Why are updates lingering in updates-testing for weeks when:
* they are known broken and/or
* they have already been replaced by a new version, which is already in stable?
IMHO, that's really what the "unpush" option is for. For example, do we really
need to have that obsolete Thunderbird RC sitting in testing forever when the
actual release is already out in the stable updates? This also makes it harder
to track down the legitimate updates which have been sitting in testing for way
too long.
