Regarding install options
by Shambo Bose
Hi,
I think if possible the fedora installer can be modified to present two
install option to the user :
1. Desktop Install.
2. Server Install.
Thanks.

Playing devil's advocate I should remark that first each language is building
its own repository and packaging system in a sense we have lots of equivalents
of (yum+rpm) for each language (perl, php, python, R, tex, ...).
On the other hand for the system to be really useful it must use the least
possible denominator (read the dumbest wins- pun intended ;-) ).

I am not sure if this is right path or the right balance.
Another possible choice is to expand R2spec in scope and not only create rpm
spec files but to discover the different dependencies and how they are solved
inside.
There is no reason that we can not rebuild the whole CRAN (or almost all of
it) automatically.

As everything with free software the survival of the fittest means that this
will only happen if there are people interested in spending resources to make
this possible.

Yes, it seems scim-bridge-0.4.15-8.fc9 in f9 updates was not pushed multilib...
Should we open a ticket with releng about that?

Too early emails about updates?
by Dmitry Butskoy
Recently something was changed in a way how update reports go to
fedora-package-announce list.
Previously, at a time when I received such emails, the correspond
updates was already presented at the primary Fedora repository. Now, I
receive emails, but the updates are still missing.
Certainly nobody can demand that recent updates appear on mirrors too
soon. But at the primary site, the previous behaviour (ie. first in
repo, then email report) would be preferable. Some people download
updates manually (fe. "yum --downloadonly" into a local repository, then
check source/changelog, then update local hosts etc.). This disorder
causes them to remember that they should re-check repositories later.
