Since Orion will push the new hdf5 to rawhide and rebuild the affected
packages and since octave is one of them the problem should be fixed
soon. :-)

I've been a lazy slob and have been waiting for the next octave release
candidate which should fix a problem with the build. Now that I've got to
rebuild for hdf5 as well I may get off my ass an make a patch since there
doesn't seem to be any progress towards a new rc.
