You need to write code that works on every video card. There are a couple
of ways to tackle that. One would be to fallback for non-VGA cards and use
strictly VGA 640x480x16 modes without timing jiggery-pokery.
Another would be to put up a logo/info area on screen by flipping to
512 character text mode and using a mini font that makes up the logo
