That's why people encrypt their laptops, password protected bootloader
wont help at all by itself.

Password protected grub makes sence when you have denied use of boot
disks through BIOS, locked the BIOS down, physically locked a machine
down so the BIOS can't be reset. Then the grub password makes sure
nobody can boot into single user mode or use grub promt to boot
removable media.
