I was confused by that, but now that I tried, I can actually log in.
Perhaps the icon should be turned into a terminal icon when you are
logged in through a vt (assuming gdm knows that detail).
It does, and it stops other users from shutting down the computer if
someone's logged in a VT. It's a great feature. :)
