It will use it.
It's smart on this: if it finds a symlink there that points to one of the files resolved manages it will assume it will not read the files, and assume it's the *provider*, not the *consumer* of them. But if it finds a regular file there it understands that and becomes a *consumer* of that file, like any other tool, and knows it doesn't provide the file anymore.
