I just tested it, and it does indeed to horrible things to UTF-8
files. I
don't know if that means it has no place, but it certainly makes it less
useful.
File a bug then, please; perhaps suggest removing the package if not
UTFable.
Fedora moved to UTF-8 a while back, which was a large step forward for
i18n; some (legacy) packages don't understand UTF-8 fully (yet?), but for a
new package it is not excusable, IHVHO.
And I was looking at this as a tiny editor that could be included in
e.g. rescue images. Oh, well.
