RPATH is perfectly fine for these purposes.

I meant to add:
If you want a relocatable package you can use $ORIGIN though. So, if
the binary is in /usr/bin (e.g., devhelp), you make the RPATH
$ORIGIN/../lib64/firefix-2.0.0.2
Then the package is relocatable (at least wrt to this binary).
