Sounds good to me. Too bad the LSB sort of wandered off into the haze,
what we really need is some
freedesktop.org equivalent for distributions.
There's no fundamental reason why packages have to be incompatible, a lot
of times the differences are different merely through being apart.
We don't have the ressources for the "one linux model"
The linux progress rate is so high because a lot of stuff is loosely
coupled, so people can work on what they care about in parallel, syncing
only now and then.
Hell, even Microsoft does not have the ressources for the "one windows"
model. And they have lots of $$$, and scale a lot less in all
directions.
