If you have a server in the tradition of UNIX workstations sure. But
such simple networking isn't the case for some servers today, and
it's hard to see that it will be the case in the future.

Then use NetworkManager for the complicated stuff! The whole point
here is we're *not* talking about complicated network configuration.
