Fedora 8 install failure

Hello, I'm trying to install Fedora 8 x86_64 on my HP Compaq 8710p laptop. The DVD boots fine, I tell the install to do a new install, come to the blue screen that loads some drivers and end up at the disk check requester. After the check is done (or skipped), /sbin/loader blows me away with a SIGSEGV error and shuts down the system. I have also tried to install Ubuntu 7.10 and OpenSUSE 10.3. They install and works flawlessly. However, I'm a Fedora guy ;-) Any suggestions? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some system facts: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz 4 GB RAM ST9120823AS hard disc NVIDIA Quadro NVS 320M graphics card TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M Intel 82566MM Gigabit LAN Intel WiFi Link 4965AG Additional info The Fedora 8 KDE LIVE CD/DVD seems to boot up just fine. Can't make a clean (swedish) install with this though. /andha

I can't find any traces of a dmesg-file, only anaconda.log and syslog, both located in the /tmp directory. The anaconda log ends after SElinux has loaded a default policy. anaconda ignores some unknown devices like finger print sensor and (interstingly) the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 320M graphics card. Since I run in text mode this should be allright. Syslog shows no errors except for a missing floppy drive (don't have one). /Anders

Anaconda hangs on the line "Running /sbin/loader". No stack dump this time. Tried both graphical and text mode. No errors in the log. Will download the i386 respin and try that too. /Anders

problem with ALPS touchpad (Toshiba Satellite) and Gsynaptics

Hi all, I'm a newbie in the linux world, been trying various distros for 6 months and recently switched to Fedora. I'm really enjoying this distribution and the community that surrounds it and so far, i've been able to make eveything work perfectly on my toshiba satellite laptop. Everything but... my touchpad! I want to be able to use it but with tapping disabled. It is viewed as ALPS Glidepoint device in Fedora's devices I've not been able to make it happen, I tried: - installing gsynaptics, but it wont start, giving me the message : "GSynaptics couldn't initialize. You have to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics" - I've looked into /etc/X11/xorg.conf but there is no reference to synaptics touchpad - i've pasted this sample config lines into xorg.conf with SHMConfig = true with no luck... Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Synaptics" Driver "synaptics" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "auto-dev" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes" Option "SHMConfig" "true" EndSection in other distros, all i had to do was edit this xorg.conf... but what about Fedora? Then, I still have to figure out how to use the kickstart file in the process to end up with the XFCE spin on my good old machine. I burned the boot CD to start the network install, and provided the http path for anaconda to access the packages. Anaconda then starts to retrieve the /images/minstg2.img packages and then crashes. Here is the message I get: "Running anaconda 11.3.0.50, the Fedora system installer - please wait... install exited abnormally [1/1]" then the systems shuts down. I assume that my config for an http install is fine as anaconda manages to access the packages... but I can't figure out why it crashes. Can anyone help please? When I am trying to activate my wireless connection using Network Configuration, I get the following error: Cannot activate network device wlan0! Determining IP information for wlan0...SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory failed. A few weeks ago I tried to use Ndiswrapper and XP drivers, without success. Information about my HP Pavilion dv6350eu (wlan): - 802.11b/g WLAN - Hardware Description: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI, Type: Wireless, Device: wlan0 - Hardware Description: b43, Type: Wireless, Device: wlan0 Does someone know a working solution? howto switch between wlan's?

I have two wireless networks. I'd like to be able to switch between them. I'm using ndiswrapper on f8 with a Broadcom BCM94311MCG chip. ifcfg-wlan0 works fine: cat ifcfg-wlan0 DEVICE=wlan0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Wireless ESSID=net1 So I set up ifcfg-wlan1: cat ifcfg-wlan1 DEVICE=wlan0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp ONBOOT=no TYPE=Wireless ESSID=net2 ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan1 Determining IP information for wlan0... failed; no link present. Check cable? Then: ifup wlan0 Determining IP information for wlan0... failed; no link present. Check cable? rmmod, and modprobing ndiswrapper makes ifup wlan0 work again. I can see both wireless access points with iwlist wlan0 scan. sean

Problem With ASUS F3SV

Hi all, I have recently brought ASUS F3SV. I was able to installed fedora 8 successfully. But these is a problem with the sound card The system detect the board but no sound comes from the speakers neither the headphones Can someone know what is the problem?? HP webcam drivers vs Fedora 9

Hi all, I have recently brought HP pavilion notebook(dv6569en). I was able to installed fedora 8 successfully. But these is a problem with web cam.
