WH: I've seen this bug already reported.

Fedora as a distro doesn't have nothing to do with such complains as they happen due a lack of proper driver implementation as some companies still refuses to support linux or because a software component is not working properly. In both cases Fedora doesn't directly develop the drivers or the components that doesn't work and you should get your complain to the upstream projects so they can fix it sometime or fill a bug report to Fedora so they can report upstream and apply patches as the come in.
WH: Huh? proprietary stuff?? No idea what you are talking about unless you mean the hardware.
>
> If you feel that other modern distros works better where Fedora fails you should check them but we all use the same linux kernel and same X.org so lack of hardware support is a common pain.
WH: I'm running RHEL which is more stable. But I like to do other work on Fedora and was hoping Fedora 10 was more stable. I realize there are a lot of different hardware platforms out there and it is difficult to support. I'm a bit surpprised because there are so many Lenova T6x around I thought that it would have been tested more and there more stable.
TBW this seemed to get worse the last few weeks so I wonder if some of my updates made the issue much more frequent.
Best,
William

Hello,
My laptop multimedia-keys(HP smart keys) works fine in GNOME desktop but doesn’t work with KDE.
Also, Internet is not getting configured. When I plugin the LAN wire, it says connected and the ip address displayed is different to what I see in windows. I have a external modem connected to broadband service provider.
Please provide suggestion to configure the above.
Thanks,
Gyan

Rpmfusion is easy to set up: http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration/
The nvidia-driver is propietary but you are allowed to use it as you own the card, so you sould not care about licensing issues about it. Only philosofical issues for being using a propietary binary thing into your free kernel.
The audio card can be a problem. You first have to identify the chipset and know if alsa supports it, you can start in alsa's web site instructions for new alsa users: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page
Good luck!

Hey, but am more worried about the Audio card. I tried with F10 KDE live CD but no sound was audible! Also how do I get rpm-fusion usage license?
Is their any alternate method to get sound working on my laptop?

Nvidia graphics will be supported if you use rpm fusion non-free repository, the processor is supported, the touchpad too, the network card too, but the tv tunner the audo codec and the HP MeadiaSmart thing should be check before. The best thing is trying first with a live cd and check that everything works out of the box. With a live cd you should not have proper video aceleration as it will use the default nv driver for your nvidia card until you set up rpmfusion and install nvidia propietary kernel, so don't worry about the video performance.

Hello,
Hey, did anyone tried Fedora(F10) on HP dv5-1210tx laptop. Following are the specs of my laptop
1. Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz
2. NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS/9600M GT Video/Graphic
3. Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
4. HP Integrated Digital TV Tuner
5. IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC
6. Realtek PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC
7. HP MediaSmart
Am scared of whether the above mentioned sound/graphics and network hardware’s would work or NOT? Please provide feedback!
Regards,
Gyan

Want to Help Fedora Suck Less
by Chris Schumann
Hello all,
I'm a new guy here, but I've been using Fedora since about 3.0, and
used Red Hat Linux from around 5.2. I'm a big fan. I have it installed
on a tower at home, and on my main laptop that I use for work every
day, a Lenovo ThinkPad T60. Obviously, I think it's pretty good to use
it every day, but there are some things that drive me crazy about it,
and I'd like to help make those problems go away for everyone else.
Is this the right place to help with the overall system, even though
the issues I'm having are related to specific hardware? I'm having
issues with video drivers (open source and proprietary), audio drivers
(on a ThinkPad 600X, alsa bug 305, FWIW); but also the default battery
and configuration settings are not very good, causing shortened
battery run-time and battery life, especially for the secondary
battery.
What's the best way to help make sure Fedora becomes even more awesome
on these machines?
I am a software developer by trade, and I have written very low-level
assembly and C code, just not for Linux. I'm happy to learn but don't
have a ton of free time. I'd like to find one or more mentors who will
instruct me on the best ways to nudge developers and maintainers of
existing projects, but getting the latest software, building, testing
and reporting.
How do I start?
Thanks,
Chris

Dual screen setup problem
by Kim Gabrielsen
Hi,
I have a laptop equipped with a Nvidia Geforce 8600 screen
card. I have installed the NVidia drivers.
Besides the laptop
screen i would like to connect my Samsung 213T 21" screen and use it
as my primary screen when working at home. The problem is that my samsung
just clones my laptop screen. It's running in 1024x768 so my icons are the
size of my head (well almost).
How do i configure the samsung
to be my primary display?
I don't see any resolutions higher
than 1024x768 when i open the nvidia configuration tool.
I'm
running Fedora Core 10.
When running vista on this machine it
works as i'd like it to work i linux, so i know that the card supports
it.
Any input welcome.
best regards
kim

Hi,
You can add acpi-off to the kernel arguments and see if it helps sort out your keyboard/mouse issue. I recently solved the problem for my friend.
Goodluck

Hi,
I've seen others have this problem and I've seen a BZ regarding it. Its the "mouse still moves but can't do anything with the keyboard or mouse input' problem. Requires a hardware reboot.
I've given up on Fedora for a while until I see this fixed. I don't have time for multiple reboots a day and the risk of losing data.
I've also seen issues with NetworkManager.
I'm sadly disappointed with F10.
