Hi Fredrik,
welcome to Fedora, and especially to Fedora Server. According to what you write about your
interests, you will find a number of interesting fields with us.
Fedora Server is largely, almost exclusively, about system administration and system
integration.
We are currently discussing our program for the coming months. And 2 important themes are
Ansible (i.e. development of Ansible playbooks to systematize typical system
administration tasks) and configuration of cloud images as VMs in Fedora Server (e.g. an
important issue is firewall configuration).
Everything is still in flux. There is no fixed list or order of priority yet. Various
currently discussed ideas can be found:
(a)
on our wiki page (
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server - Currently Ongoing Work
Projects)
(b)
on the home page of our new documentation, which is currently under development
(
https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-server/ - What's Cooking)
(c)
in the draft of our new Product Requirement Document (PRD) (
https://hackmd.io/@x3mboy/HyB92cVl_ - Section 6: Specific upcomming goals)
We meet every Wednesday, 17:00 *UTC* at #fedora-meeting. Next Wednesday is mostly about
PRD and documentation. Planning the future work is part of both.
Another good start might be to read our documentation (see above). That could be about a
critical review from a technical / practical perspective from a system administrator's
point of view.
I hope it hasn't gotten too long up to this point. In any case, I would be happy if we
continued to discuss details.
Best
Peter

Hi,
I'm writing to this list because I was browsing the Fedora site and looking
for ways to contribute. I'm currently working full time as Red Hat Linux
Consultant. Though I'm also interested in ansible, virtualization and
cloud I have found that I prefer to work with pure system
administration. The perfect thing for me to help the Fedora communtity
would be something that helps me build a broader picture of the
operating system as a whole. I have not a programming background so pure
coding is not for me. I was thinking in terms of SELinux or systemd but
it could be something completely different. Whatever it may eventually
be I guess I would follow this path:
1) Get some pointers from you guys and start with some heavy reading
2) Getting access to some bug or incident system or maybe a list of
"request for enhancement/feature" and start there with some supervision.
3) Learn how to test, debug and package whatever I can produce.
What do you think? Is the Server project a good place for me to start or could
you think of a better project for me?
Regards,
/Fredrik (swefredde)
