rndc Question
by Dan Track
Hi
Could someone please tell me if its possible to use rndc to remotely
manage multiple dns servers in one command line.
I've tried the following:
rndc -s server1 -s server2 -s server3 reload example.com
but it only reloads the last server argument e.g server3.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi, on a machine with RH7.2 I get this error on scsi disk:
Nov 2 10:18:04 berta kernel: Info fld=0x3c3e2f, Current sd08:11: sense

What can I do to repair this? Any tool to analyse it better?

firefox file download help apps?
by Lonni J Friedman
I've got a bizarre problem with firefox (2.0), where I want to be able
to tell firefox which helper application to spawn when encountering
specific file types. I can't figure out any way to add new types to
its seemingly hardcoded list. I could have sworn that there used to
be an extension that provided this functionality, but i can't find it
now either. Anyone know?

Avoid kudzu to re-generate ifcfg-eth0 in FC6 ?
by Steven Shiau
Hi,
If I replace a network card, the kudzu will re-generate the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, like:
----------------------
# Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
HWADDR=00:30:1b:xx:xx:xx
----------------------
How can I disable that, i.e., I do not want to let kudzu automatically
generate the ifcfg-eth0 for me, while still let kudzu to detect all the
hardware ?
Thanks in advance.

[FC6] Firefox + Sun Java
by M. Lewis
I'm not getting java to work. I followed the directions on Stanton
Finley's page (substituting versions where applicable). However the java
refuses to run for some reason.
[root@moe ~]# alternatives --config java
There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
* 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java
+ 2 /opt/jre1.5.0_09/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 2
[root@moe ~]# alternatives --display java
java - status is manual.
link currently points to /opt/jre1.5.0_09/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java - priority 1420
slave keytool: /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/keytool
slave rmiregistry: /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/rmiregistry
slave jre_exports: /usr/lib/jvm-exports/jre-1.4.2-gcj
slave jre: /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj
/opt/jre1.5.0_09/bin/java - priority 2
slave keytool: (null)
slave rmiregistry: (null)
slave jre_exports: (null)
slave jre: (null)
Current `best' version is /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java.
Any thoughts as to what I'm missing?
Thanks,
Mike

Make compiz fly!
by Christian Nolte
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi!
I just want to share some tweak for compiz with you. I have successfully
installed compiz and it works perfectly. The only drawback I've had were
performance issues when the system was under heavy load (e.g. compiling,
or running java apps). I've had to disable compiz to be able to use the
system again.
However, I have found a solution: I use schedtool to give X highest
round-robin priority. Rendering is now incredibly fast. Here is what you
have to do:
1. Download and build schedtool (make sure you have installed
kernel-devel). Use "make no_affinity" to build schedtool.
http://freequaos.host.sk/schedtool/schedtool-1.1.2.tar.bz2
2. Run schedtool as root and give X highest priority (perhaps a bit
much, especially if you use other real-time apps):
schedtool -R -p 1 `pgrep Xorg`
Notice the improvement...
Best regards!
Christian
