Fedora 36 ViurtualBox needs libvpx.so.6
by Terry Polzin
So where does this library come from? It would appear that earlier
versions of VirtualBox used libvpx.so.5 which was part of compat-libvpx5,
there doesn't seem to be a compat-libvpx6 package

How does one request a new RPM package group?
by Scott Beamer
Greetings,
I'd like to see an RPM package group added that would include all the
KDE-specific games. Something like the way the Debian/Ubuntu "kdegames"
packages depends on all the official KDE games.
They're not included with either of the current KDE package groups and
it's a pain to add them install them individually.
How would one go about requesting the addition of a package group to
Fedora? Is this done through Bugzilla, or is there anther way of going
about this?
TIA.

Fedora 36: NetworkManager dispatcher: SELinux avc denied after
update
by Dario Lesca
After update to Fedora 36 I have a selinux problem with my personal
NetworkManager dispatcher script
Into logs I get this error:
mag 17 12:56:30 dodo.home.solinos.it audit[160270]: AVC avc: denied { getattr } for pid=160270 comm="nm-dispatcher" path="/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/15-vpn-disp" dev="dm-1" ino=33588281 scontext=system_u:system_r:NetworkManager_dispatcher_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:NetworkManager_exec_t:s0 tclass=file permissive=0
But if I try set SElinux permission I get this error:
[lesca@dodo Network]$ sudo chcon system_u:system_r:NetworkManager_dispatcher_t:s0 /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/15-vpn-disp
chcon: failed to change context of '/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/15-vpn-disp' to 'system_u:system_r:NetworkManager_dispatcher_t:s0': Permission denied
How to I can enable my dispatcher script execution?
Many thanks

Gigabyte: "we cannot offer full support on Linux"
by Sam Varshavchik
It's been a long time since I've encountered this kind of obtuseness. This
is not new, but I thought that this kind of blindness was in the rear-view
mirror. I guess not.
One of their motherboards keeps locking up on me. After some back and forth
their last reply ended the discussion thread with a:
# Since we do not fully support and validate Linux, we cannot offer full
# support on Linux. Please try a Windows base OS to check if you are still
# experiencing the same instability issue.
Just thought I'd mention it here, so that other DIYers might take this into
consideration. Looking at their support page, it's listing new BIOS updates
every month.

Problems with Borg backup on F36
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I updated to F36 a few days ago and everything seemed to go smoothly
until I noticed my regular nightly backups were failing. I use
Borgbackup and the configuration has been stable for a long time with
no problems. The actual backup does seem to succeed, but Borg runs a
post-backup repository check that is now failing, even for backups
taken before the system upgrade.
I've reported this:

nvidia driver disabled ion F36 upgrade?
by Barry Scott
I have been using the nvidia driver from rpmfusion on f35 without problem.
Just upgraded to F36 and its using nouveau.
There is a nvidia-fallback service that ran and did the modprobe nouveau.
(Nice that this is here as a fallback)
Anyone know why the rpmfusion driver is not automatically loaded after
the upgrade?

fractional scaling in Fedora 36
by Anil Felipe Duggirala
Hello everyone,
I have installed Fedora 36 on a high-dpi laptop (Del XPS 9550) and Gnome; Im having trouble setting the scaling to 250% (200 is too small and 300 is too big).
I tried "enabling" fractional scaling by doing: gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']"
This in fact allowed me to set the scaling to 250%, but then, when trying to open ANY program, the window would appear and disappear instantly. I wasn't even able to set the setting back to normal. I just reinstalled the whole system to get Gnome working again on Wayland (Xorg was working still).
My questions:
1. Is there another way to enable fractional scaling? (Gnome and Wayland)
2. In terms of performance, setting the display resolution to a smaller value (than my monitor default) is the same as using scaling?
3. Does fractional scaling work better in Xorg? how do you enable this in that case?
4. Does fractional scaling on Wayland affect performance compared to integer scaling?
5. Any other suggestions ?

LibreOffice Base?
by Robert Moskowitz
I want to create an Access Database on my F35 system so my wife can also
use it on her Windows system using Access.
So I did a quick bit of googling and found that maybe LibreOffice Base
is what I want.
So I did:
dnf install libreoffice-base
which worked, and then tried launching it and
nothing...
Any hints on getting this running?
thanks
