kdesktop_lock won't authenticate against AD
by Marcelo Magno T. Sales
Hi,
My FC5 / KDE box is part of a Windows 2000 domain. I've configured it to
authenticate login credentials against Active Directory and it's working
well. However, when I lock the desktop (manually or via password protected
screen saver), I can not unlock it if the logged in user is an Active
Directory user.
kdesktop_lock fails with the following message:
"Cannot unlock the session because the authentication system feiled to work;
you must kill kdesktop_lock (pid_of_process) manually"
A local user can unlock the desktop without problems.
Any idea about what may be causing this?
Here is may pam configuration for kcheckpass (/etc/pam.d/kcheckpass):
#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_timestamp.so
auth include system-auth
account required pam_nologin.so
account include system-auth
password include system-auth
session include system-auth
session required pam_loginuid.so
session optional pam_timestamp.so
session optional pam_selinux.so
session optional pam_console.so
Also, /usr/bin/kcheckpass permisions are set as 4755.
Thanks,
Marcelo

xcalc missing?
by Joe Klemmer
Anyone know where xcalc went off to? It was on my FC4 install but it's
disappeared since the (funky) FC5 update. I don't know if it's really
not there or if I fraged it doing the upgrade.

Monodevelop et al on FC5
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
http://www.all-the-johnsons.co.uk/mono/rpms.html
Other than ikvm and monodoc, the rest are currently waiting for approval
for inclusion into FE. Use them at your own risk.
Issues
------
Currently, there is a problem with gtk-2.9 which means monodevelop is
prone to falling flat on it's face. This is supposed to be fixed in the
next rawhide release (2.9.3). If you're on FC5, this version will filter
down to you when it's happy.
Changes
-------
Most of the packages are now noarch (exceptions being boo and nant).
This is inline with the proposed mono packaging rules.
boo is now the current upstream version and requires nant
The x86_64 versions will be uploaded later today (Friday, 16th June)
If the apps fail or cause problems, please email me directly with the
bug report.

Sane doesn't see HP5370C scanner -
by Bob Goodwin
Sane did work with this equipment under FC-4 but of course I wiped
everything out when I installed FC-5. This morning I thought I'd like
to get the scanner working but my efforts have been to no avail. My
notes don't indicate any unique configuration under FC-4?
Some of the indications I am seeing are as follows:
scanimage -L
No scanners were identified.
sane-find-scanner

# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be

It appears that the computer recognizes the scanner but sane does not?
I don't know where to look next , what to do? Nothing I have found has
been of much help.
Suggestions appreciated.

spca5xx freezes system

gcc (GCC) 4.1.0 20060304 (Red Hat 4.1.0-3)

Compiles and installs fine. Modprobe spca5xx works fine. Here's the /var/log/messages output of doing a "modprobe spca5xx":

Next, I plug in the camera, and /var/log/messages gives:

But when I run spcaview, it freezes the machine. For obvious reasons I can't cut-n-paste the screen output. Any ideas?

RE: Web-design in Fedora
by LinuxMedia

I learned from a book called "HTML 4 for the world wide web" (fourth
edition) by Elizabeth Castro. I can't imagine a better, easier book to
follow and understand. And it's an extreemly good reference book. If you
want to look up how to do something specific... you go right to that page.
I have since lost touch with the (constant and endless) changes with
creating web pages and web sites. But HTML 4 is a very solid, basic
language that should run on most (if not all) browsers. Any browser
specific tags (in the book) are clearly listed as such.
Hope this helps,

Yum still not working after updating FC4-FC5
by Tim Alberts
I never had yum working in FC4 on my desktop machine. I just upgraded
to FC5 and yum is still not working. I think it's because the
repositores aren't updated to FC5, because the /etc/yum.conf file says
it is for FC3. My guess is if I update the config file with the correct
repositories, it will work. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I have the rpm packate yum-2.6.0-1.noarch.rpm on my computer, copied
from my install CD's. I have tried yum -i --force --replacefiles
yum-2.6.0-1.noarch.rpm (also tried the -U) and I still have the
same /etc/yum.conf file. Am I not using the correct rpm command?
Below is the output of 'yum update yum'
