How I can automate postgres DB backing up?
by Strong
I have several DBs in single claster. When I make
pg_dumpall -U postgres >file
it asks me for password exact times the number DBs I have. Even to do
that manualy, it sucks. But I want to go even farther: how I can
automate the process to put into cron?

selinux policy update broke setroubleshoot
by Joe Smith
After the update yesterday (11/2) of the selinux policy, selinux
exceptions are no longer reported by the desktop setroubleshoot browser.
Here's what I have in /var/log/messages:

For complete SELinux messages. run sealert -l

(sauid=602, hostname=?, addr=?, terminal=?)
Nov 2 10:07:49 duros setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing

For complete SELinux messages. run sealert -l

Now, selinux exceptions are still logged in /var/log/messages, but no
longer trigger any desktop notification, and do not appear in the
desktop setroubleshoot browser.
Anyone else see this? Bugzilla time? Wait for f8?

Two FC7 questions
by Gene Heskett
I was just out on a 3000 mile run (my oldest daughter is dying of cancer,
maybe a week left), taking my HP DV5120us lappy with me, which has a bcm4318
radio in it.
Partway through the trip, while hooked to a cat5 cable I ran yumex and let it
update the box, which included the kernels, latest is now a 2.6.23-1 variant,
but it removed the kernels that I had been running ndiswrapper with
flawlessly.
1. I see that b43 or sdd seem to be the default modules for that radio now,
but I spent several hours in motels trying to connect with WEPless motel
setups without getting a valid dhclient setup environment, so when I got
home, there were about 3500 msgs awaiting me on this box.
Obviously there are some new tools but I don't see manpages for them, so whats
the procedure to set this up from scratch? Include the use of the new crypto
modules too as some motels were using TIPK and WPA2.
2. Running roadnav while on the road, the screen blanker drove me nuts, and
this is something that I tried to turn off but found I had to park the mouse
where it got constantly jiggled in order to keep it alive more than 10
minutes, all this while running on a lighter plugin supply which makes it
think its on AC power.
Having to lean over the console in my truck to where the lappy was sitting in
the shotgun seat to find and tap the spacebar was both an irritation, and
multiplied the in-advertant lane wobbles that cause accidents by at least an
order. At the ripe old age of 73, I don't need that a bit.
So whats the cure for the blanker caused blue smoke from my ears?

gcc install/upgrade question
by bruce
hi...
a basic question.
fc6 comes with gc4.1 . i'm looking to test gc4.2, and would like to have a
parallel dev environment so i have both 4.1 and 4.2.
i'm trying to find pointers on what needs to be done, to make sure i don't
screw up the current 4.1 environment.
it appears that all i need to do is to set a prefix dir when i do the
initial configure.
--./configure --prefix=/gcc42
--make
--make install
this appears to place everything under the gcc42 top level dir. however,
what will i need to do to actually be able to hook into the libs/objs
created by the gcc4.2 build. what will i have to insert into my paths, or
rather where should the information be placed.. in the bashrc/profile
files/etc...
pointers/sites on this would be helpful. haven't been able to find a good
site that walks through this...
once i test 4.2, i'll just rebuild, and rewrite gcc4.1. are there any issues
that i'm going to run into when i do that!
thanks

livna vs. fc7 default yum setup?
by Dave Burns
"the unofficial fedora faq" says:
"# Become root:
su -
# Install the yum-priorities package:
yum -y install yum-priorities
# Now, install my yum configuration (Updated 2 November 2007), using
this command:
rpm -Uvh http://www.fedorafaq.org/yum http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm
"
Is this a good idea or just the livna site's self-promotion? I am
tempted to think this is pretty official, since it comes from
fedorafaq.org. But if it was a good idea, why not put it in the
default fedora setup? Confused.
Thanks,
Dave

And while the first two are specifically targeting port 25, the
other two aren't But more importantly, how is this being done, and how
do I stop it? Did I forgot to disable something within Apache somewhere?

nant and problems compiling

Is anyone familiar with nant and mono that would offer to assist me
offline?? I'm getting this error and I'm not sure is something is
missing in the rpm installation or if it's my mistake:

git-core rpm corrupted
by Ric Moore
The rpm file "git-core" in the "everything" branch for red hat/fedora 7
is corrupted. I found the file at rpm.pbone in one piece. Just a heads
up so someone else can avoid spending way too much time trying to dnload
it over and over. Ric

Belkin Wireless G USB
by John Pierce
Hello!
I posted this to the linux wireless list and have received not
response. I thought maybe someone on the fedora list might have had
some success.
I just purchased a belkin wireless g usb adapter and am not having any
luck getting it to work.
The following is the output from various commands, if more info is
needed then I will post it back.
Distro: Fedora 7
Kernel: 2.6.22.4-65.fc7
I have created a ifcfg-wlan0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
with the following:
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
TYPE=Wireless
DEVICE=wlan0
BOOTPROTO=static
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=192.168.1.60
ONBOOT=yes
USERCTL=yes
IPV6INIT=no
PEERDNS=yes
ESSID=thedungeon
CHANNEL=11
MODE=Managed
RATE=Auto
SECURITYMODE=open
I have a keys-wlan0 file in that same directory with the wep key for my router.
I set up a file named zd1211 in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory with
the following in it.
alias wlan0 zd1211rw_mac80211
This is the output of dmesg immediately after inserting the usb adapter.
usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
wmaster0: Failed to select rate control algorithm
wmaster0: Failed to initialize rate control algorithm
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
zd1211rw_mac80211: probe of 2-2:1.0 failed with error -2
usbcore: registered new interface driver zd1211rw_mac80211
This is the output of lsusb after inserting the adapter.
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 050d:705c Belkin Components
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 15d9:0a33
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
When I try the run ifup wlan0 this is the output.
zd1211rw_mac80211 device wlan0 does not seem to be present, delaying
initialization.
Every thing I have read indicates that this device is supported in
linux, including the vendor and device id.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
