Re: Re: sound on mac pro
by Arzan
Hi Aaron i went into the sound preferences and turned up all the
sliders to full. When they are muted I see a red line going through
the speaker icon so they are not muted either. Also when I put on my
headphones and do and audio test I can hear the sound its just really
faint. Any other suggestions please?

Contributing a new package
by Colin Paul Adams
Is this the correct list to discuss the possibility of contributing a
new package to Fedora Linux? If not, where would be more appropriate?
I took a look at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate#ML, but I'm
still not clear in my mind. Fedora-devel-list sounds like a possibility.

configging repositories
by Michael Klinosky
I installed F8 from the Live CD, and noticed that the repositories could
be configged (for the Package Manager). I tried to find this on my F7
machine - but I don't see any way to do it.
Did this change between F7 and F8? Or, am I missing something?
On the F8 machine (which I'm on about once a month), I want to add CD or
DVD - i.e. "Install media". It was there, but (for some reason) I
deactivated it; now I can't get it back. I need the exact wording (e.g.
file:// ...)

panel will not resize
by lostson
Hello
I am setting up gnome and the panel will not resize down to 21 or 20
like I would like it to. It seems the menu bar icon is 24 so the whole
panel will not scale down to the size I want it to. Is there a way to
fix this ? thanks.

wireless connection not working
by Jan Brosius
Hi,
I have installed fedora 8 on my Acer Aspire 9920G notebook. My internet adsl connection (PPoE) works when
I connect my notebook with my modem with an ethernet cable (just the username and the password are required).
I have a wifi builtin in my notebook. However when I unplug this network cable I can no longer connect to the internet.
Wireless connecting works with vista (preinstalled on my notebook).
My hardware specs that I found in my technical handbook are:
Intel Wireless Wifi Link 4965AGN
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
How can I connect connect wirelessly to the internet?
Thanks for any help

UK BT speedtest with iced tea?
by mike cloaked
Does anyone know if the UK BT speedtest at http://speedtester.bt.com/
is out of action, or if it fails to work in F8 only due to incompatibility with
Iced Tea?
Does anyone have Sun Java installed instead of Iced Tea that might confirm
that it does work with Sun Java?
Thanks

Support for Microsoft VX-1000 webcam in fedora 7 and Fedora 8
by Leslie S Satenstein
I compiled the files that make up gspca and was able to make the webcam display. However, the quality of the picture in Fedora is abismal. On a scale of 1 to 10, it is a 1.3. This same camera under XP produces a picture that is a 9.5+
With XP, sound works. I have not been able to test sound with this webcam.
I believe that the whole area of webcam support must be revisited. Too many of us have needs to view and discuss (via skype, ekiga, msn, etc. etc.) with others across the continent or even across the ocean.
With Windows, I found a web site that describes the protocol in use for Windows (CE or other). This protocol was valid before newer webcam versions appeared.
I really switch to XP to use the webcam. In the interrim, I am learning the source and the ioctl() functions to analyse webcam signals and decoding.
The webcams are with one or two chips. One part is dedicated to the USB protocol, and the other, for the actual camera. Some webcams can send the data raw, while others will compress the data and send it with much fewer characters. The receiving driver's role is to decompress and present the output to the screen. If the output is a jpeg file, it may be recompressed to jpeg fomat.
Use camstream to test your webcam.#

I'm not sure if you're asking whether gspca supports the Microsoft
VX-1000 webcam or whether the gspca driver is in Fedora. It is not, but
it is in Livna.
