Firewalld and none superuser
by Earl Ramirez
Dear All,
Previously, when I run firewall-cmd --list-all or any firewalld
commands as a regular user it will failed, with authorization failure.
Today I noticed that if I run firewall-cmd --list-all I can see the
rules; however, I am not able to modify the firewall rules without a
superuser privileges.
Is this the expected behaviour to be able to see the firewall rules as
a regular user or should I file a bug?

The restorecon problem is coming back
by Ron Yorston
On 6th May an update to selinux-policy for Fedora 32 (3.14.5-38.fc32)
caused all filesystems to be relabelled. In my case this took over
twelve hours. I was not happy.
It appears the developers have a workaround for the problem but the
update that applies it will cause all filesystems to be relabelled
if you already have the borked 3.14.5-38.fc32 update.
The new update is currently in updates-testing and will no doubt be
making its way onto our systems soon enough. The developers say[1]:
Please note updating from the previous package version
selinux-policy-3.14.5-38.fc32 will have all filesystems relabeling
as a result which cannot be prevented. If relabeling takes a lot
of time, consider unmounting some filesystems, updating manually,
postponing the update to later.
You have been warned.
Ron

X server crashes when system is busy but server is idle
by Jonathan Ryshpan
A number of times lately my system has partially locked up. When this
happens, the system is playing an audio file (usually using rhythmbox)
but is otherwise idle. Audio continues but the screen is inactive: generally it is dark but sometimes it shows a screen saver (sometimes a clock that never changes); sometimes the cursor follows the mouse; usually no cursor is visible. It's possible to get into console mode by pressing CTRL/ALT/F2 but I haven't been able to get the graphical system back without rebooting. I first saw this under Fedora-31 and have been waiting for Fedora-32 before reporting it. Nothing in the log stands out.
Any theories? Anything I should look for?
System is Fedora-31 and Fedora-32
Server is: /usr/libexec/Xorg
CPU model is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Graphics controller is: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core

L1TF CPU bug present - What do I do now ?
by Sreyan Chakravarty
Hi guys,
While booting up I get a scary message saying:
L1TF CPU bug present and SMT on, data leak possible.
Yup you guessed it, I am on an Intel processor, which is in fact quiet old:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU
Vulnerability info from the kernel:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/l1tf
Mitigation: PTE Inversion; VMX: conditional cache flushes, SMT vulnerable
I am in the process of reading this detailed article about the bug:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/hw-vuln/l1tf.html
Meanwhile, I wanted to know if any one here has the same problem and
what they did for mitigations.
The scariest thing about this bug, specifically, is that even malicious
VMs pose a threat. May speculative execution burn in hell.
I am no expert on hardware or these types of obscure vulnerabilities so
any advice/tips/help is greatly appreciated.
PS: I thought of going to a kernel mailing list, but am worried that
those "geniuses" would just flame me.
