system-config-samba with a stick. :) Smb.cof generated by it is bloated
beyond reason.
Yes, I never used it for smb.conf either because I know where that
is and how to edit it :-).

Thanks! That's what I need to define the user (I never had any idea
where the user info went or how to change it outside of
the system-config-samba tool :-). I guess things are more complex
if I want windows and linux user names to be different (but in my
case they are the same so I don't need to fool with that).
Are you using selinux?
Nope! selinux gets turned off even before I boot the system for
the first time :-).
