news readers?

[Jeffrey Ross]

looking for a news reader for use under Linux that can handle multiple 
part binaries.  Right now I've been looking at xnews running under 
Wine.  It seems to fit the bill but would rather something native to Linux.

Suggestions?

pan works very well for me.

DITTO on PAN.

I used agent under win for years and pan is the closest I c9ould find to it.

I used to like Pan, but they're buggering it around, over simplifying
it.  Previously, it used to have a useful, even if convoluted to use
(especially since you couldn't set defaults) filtering feature.

It used it to only show the last few days of messages in the list, so I
didn't have to weed through masses of chaff.  It's only a display
filter, though, so I could undo it and find older messages, when I
needed to.

That's gone now, so on some news groups you have to wade through
thousands of messages.
