My /var/www/html/dav/Home.ics file disappeared yesterday (just before
noon) from my home server (F13.i686). My laptop (F14.x86_64) was online
at a remote location at the time, and thunderbird was open, and I was
reading emails via dovecot. I found the following entries in my
server's httpd/access_log:

This was within seconds of un-suspending my laptop from the
suspend-to-RAM state (after it had connected to one of the local WiFi
connections).
And if I look at the /var/www/html/dav directory on my server:

It looks to me like my calendar disappeared just before noontime....
(the other files there are from the last time webDAV screwed up on me,
but at that time, 15 months ago, it was only a partial corruption of my
file.)
I didn't (intentionally) do it! How could it have disappeared?
What happened to my Home.ics calendar???? Is there somewhere's
else I can look for clues?
I didn't even notice this until just before midnight last night!
I have logs showing that it was working fine the day before....

New subject: Is it possible for Thunderbird-Lightning to delete a calendar on a webDAV server???
Wow!
I was looking around in my .thunderbird profile folder, and I found the
following:
calendar-data/backup
and in there I found a (very) recent copy of my missing calendar. Since
I haven't modified it since I last had the last reminder pop up, I was
able to restore it from this backup. *WHEW*
I am back up and running after copying this backup file back into my
/var/www/html/dav directory.

Yes, I have a Google Calendar (or two) already, but I was hoping to have
a calendar on my home server for use by just my family without having to
hang it out somewhere else. It sure would be nice if caldav was

Google Calendar is not without its problems. They just recently had a
problem with their embedded calendars moving all the events to the left
in the week. Their initial response from Google was "there is no
problem, it works for us". This was broken for two or three weeks
before they acknowledged and fixed their bug (or perhaps it just that
long to find the fix and deploy it....).
For a brief period of a few weeks I also synced the same calendar
with
evolution which was fine except that if an event flagged up during the
day when the screensaver was running or the screen was powersaved then
it gave an error popup - but that was in f13 and I am now only using
f14 - so have not tested evo recently.
I don't use evolution, and I haven't started setting alarms on events in
either of my Google Calendars just yet. Since I'm pretty sure that its
the use of snoozing on some of these events that is the problem, I
suppose I should try it with a Google Calendar just to see if it exists
there too....

typo - I meant google calendar - which is caldav and quiet robust - and
i believe lightning works with it - tho i removed lightning as it
brought tb to its knees ith a large ical file ... but that was some time
back - sunbird at least left your mail client alone but its gone now I
believe ...

the apple cal dav server was never cleaned up and packaged for fedora
was it ?
Good groupware shared calendar which lets you use your existing mail
server (sendmail or procmail) would be rather nice to have ..

bytes is probably an error message. The client will try again, this
time logging in. The next log entry shows the username it logs in as.

bytes is probably an error message about it. I would have thought
that'd mean the original file was left alone, but it could be that the
server fouled it up during whatever error happened.
I don't remember seeing any error messages at that time.
*BUT*, I did remember another piece of the puzzle. I had an appointment
scheduled for 1/3 at 14:00. I also had an alarm set for 1 week before.
It went off on Monday at 14:00. At that time, I set a 1 day snooze for
it. Yesterday at 14:00, it went off again. I decided at that time to
set another 1 day snooze. That's the last time I remember doing
anything with the calendar. [FWIW, I have 4 other calendars set up in
Lightning, and they are all fine, including a Google Calendar.] But,
yes, I am missing the calendar which held the appointment I was snoozing.
Syntax of the log entries are:
address username username datestamp "command path protocol" response-code
bytes-transferred "" "user-agent"
The username field will either show a dash for no name, or the name that
was used. There's two username fields, because one's from the clients
identd service (if it responds), the other is the auth name used with
the HTTP request (if it logs in).
You can find out about these log entries by looking up HTTP error codes
(or HTTP response codes), and Apache log format (many things use the
same log format).

That's a darn shame. I find it very useful. I like the integration
with Lightning. What I don't like is losing an entire calendar file
from time to time, even if it *is* every 15 months....
Is there a good caldav server yet on fedora ? Otherwise you could
switch to gmail
There isn't one already packaged up (no RPM). I found some directions
(via Google) when I set mine up (over 2 years ago). Looks like I'm
going to have to set up a regular backup of my calendar to guard against
this (once I re-create it).
And I'm not interested in switching to gmail. But thanks for the info.
