RE: Best AntiVirus for Fedora Core 1

I am wondering if I need antivirus.  I am using an FTP/SFTP server.
Does ClamAV scan uploaded files that are SFTP?  Do I need an OS level
antivirus?  Some have told me that Av is not needed on Linux.  I am not
planning on running windows stores.  A user will send a file to the
server with SFTP and a user will retrieve the file via SFTP.  However,
both users will likely be using windows based systems.

I'm a pretty big OSS advocate but there is a closed product called nod32
that just blows away everything out there. And fast, I scanned around 30
gigs in 11 minutes. I have not tried the linux version, but the windows
one found trojan/virii on 
all 3 machines I've ran it on so far. Closed or not It's won many 'real'

Only you can answer this question.  How is your system used and what 
expertise do your users have? 

For example, take the scenario where a Windows user uploads a file 
that has a virus.  A couple of month's later another Windows user 
downloads the same file and infects his machine.  Will you know, for 
certain, that the cause of the second user's infection was the file 
that was downloaded or will it take another few months and another 
few users getting infected to figure out what's going on?

It seems to me that anything you can do to make it hard to spread viruses on
your network will have a payoff.  It may not help you, the *nix admin, but it
will help the people using your server.

I'm using ClamAV on my little mail server.  You can install ClamAV and have it
manually scan the system (or selected directories) on a regular basis, write a
script to scan files as soon as the SFTP completes, or use the "clamuko"
module to have real-time background scanning running in those directories.

FC2test1: XFree86

Hello list

Since a few days, I can't update many of the kde and qt packages (in 
fact everything gui related) because the dependency resolving shows an 
error that XFree86 requires some libx. I thought that everything which 
is required for these FC2test updates is located in rawhide?

Can it be that I may have unintentionally/accidentally updated something 
XFree86-related from another repository which is icompatible to 
FC2test1? (I sometimes use apt-get with the freshrpms repository 
enabled, but for regular updates I use up2date with rawhide)

 XFree86 has been replaced with the X fork version dubbed xorg-x11. Also 
FC2 Test 2 is out and uses xorg-x11 by default.

I have a system that is running the development version and still has 
XFree86 on it. Some third part programs, like dvd viewers do conflict 
with going up to xorg. I kept XFree86 installed for just this reason.

Thank you for the info. But how do I update the available kde rawhide 
updates then? Or should I wait until one kind soul of the development 
team repackages them?

Please be so kind an discuss test release issues on the
fedora-test-list(a)redhat.com or development issues on the developer list.

This list is for the stable branch. Please let us keep the things apart.
