Promise or Highpoint IDE card?

Hi,
Does anybody know if the IDE Cards from Promise and/or Highpoint work in 
Fedora core-1?
I'm specially interested in Promise FastTrack 133 or HighPoint 372.
I don't want to use the RAID functions, just the IDE part.
I can't find good infos...

I'm using the EIO 8401H (non-raid) IDE card (InnoVision). This uses an 
ITE 8212 chip. The supplied drivers were only for older versions of 
Linux but their helpdesk pointed me to the ITE website for drivers where 
I took the RH9 source (note: source code available) version and 
recompiled. I now have a nice working card. The drivers are actively 
being developed as there is a version for 2.6 kernels.

   The Promise FastTrak will work fine as an IDE controller.  Attempting 
to use the driver based raid features can only end badly.  Read the 
ataraid list archives for details.  The HPT 372 is said to be much the 
same, but I'd not used it much.

I disagree, the first upgrade you do with your kernel, you won't see the 
hard drive, stay away from Promise products with Linux, they admit they 
have poor or no support for Linux and are software RAID.

But in this special case - for which the OP asked: just plain parallel
IDE usage, no RAID, no SATA - both cards are supported by driver modules
offered by the kernel, no third party modules from vendors needed. Or do
I err?

If it's just plain parallel IDE, then the Promise Ultra TX2 cards are
probably the best card you can get, they were supported by the kernel
for quite some time and they're really cheap. I have one in a computer
and I use software RAID-1 with it and it works great. At half the price
of a FastTrack, you can't go wrong with them.

   Sure if you are foolish enough to use a binary driver, but that's not 
what I'm advocating at all.

   Yes, but he did mention he didn't want to use the raid features. 
Promise's binary raid driver's are more trouble than they're worth, but 
the chipset is a better than average ide controller.  As a pure ide 
controller the

   Yes Rick's faq is a great place to start if you are looking for a 
SATA controller.  However the Promise FastTrak 133, and HighPoint 372 
are PATA.
