Disable Screensaver / Window Positions

Hi,
I have a fedora35 desktop with three monitors using Cinnamon standard,
I believe.

After the screensaver is activated and I then press a key to restore
the display, all the windows from the center monitor have shifted to
the left monitor. Why does this happen?

Also, how do I even disable the screensaver? I've tried the
"screensaver" applet in "System Settings", but there's no toggle
to
actually disable it, only to be able to control the delay before
starting the screensaver.

Perhaps you even have another desktop besides Cinnamon that you
recommend, and is better than the default GNOME? There are other
problems I have with it, like when using "remote desktop viewer" to
view my Windows VM, ALT keypresses are interpreted by the viewer and
not passed on to Windows.

I'm afraid I can't answer your other questions but for this, in 
Cinnamon, go to the screensaver applet in 'System Settings' and select 
'Never' from 'Delay before Starting the Screensaver'.  Yes, it's not
the 
clearest of commands, but it works.  'Never' should be at the top of the 
dropdown menu, so scroll up if you have to.

I've done that previously, but the screensaver still activates after some
unknown period :-(

Does the control panel still show it as deactivated?

You might have two screen savers installed and active.

I'm a bit fuzzy on this as the issue I had over 6 years ago with KDE sounds familiar.

I only had 2 identical monitors but I recall things were "jumbled" coming back
from screensaver.

I had a single GPU card with 3 outputs.  DVI, HDMI, and Display Port.  I resolved my issue
by making
sure the monitor I wanted to be the "primary" was connected to the HDMI port.

I probably could have fixed it with a custom Xorg.conf but it was a new install and I
wanted as much
"vanilla" as possible so I didn't have to remember changes.  :-)

Ugh, how would that ever happen, and how do I find out?

Where else would I look to find another screensaver?

Some people go looking for screensavers and install them all, mixing
together their desktop's with old Xorg ones, not only including the
savers but the controllers for them.  I've read about this kind of
thing before, but don't remember the details.

I only have one, on this box:

Hmm, at this point I'd start experimenting.  Find the config file and 
edit it there.  I don't know where that is, off the top of my head, but 
I bet duckduckgo does :).  Also, as Tim suggested, maybe there's two 
instances running?

/home/you/.config/autostart/ might be place? In my XFCE4 there
are xfce4-power-manager.desktop, xfce4-screensaver.desktop,
xscreensaver.desktop, even I disabled those from setteings..

That's certainly something I can do - I'm more comfortable on the
command-line than otherwise, but more of an old-school admin than
knowing how to edit the GUI config files.

However, my first thought after reading your suggestion was that it
was outrageous and not something I should have to do for such a simple
task :-)

I clicked the "Menu" in the lower-left, saw that there was a search
bar, and typed "screen". It presented me with the Screensaver icon, as
well as "Power management", where it showed it was automatically
turning off the screen after 30m.

I've now disabled that, and will see what happens, but I suspect
that's it. It's a real shame that those two apps don't work well
together.
