Yum/up2date/apt-get problem

Hi,

I cannot load yum or up2date in my Xeon DP (kernel 2.4*2194.smp).. my erro
msg is:

[root@server2 download]# rpm -Uvh yum-2.0.5-1.noarch.rpm
/etc/security/selinux/file_contexts: No such file or directory

[root@server2 download]# yum update

[Errno 7] HTTP Error (CannotSendRequest):

Curiously I also cannot use apt-get or synaptic, looks like cannot connect
to any RPM repositories at all... From others machines, I can acces my
webpages in the apache server of that machine, and also connect to the
local network, but not outside.. any tips to solve this ?

Not enough information provided to clearly see if you may have a
networking/routing problem.  In any case, configure /etc/yum.conf and/
or /etc/apt/sources.list for a mirror near you from the list at
http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors.html

The redhat site is very busy and often times out.

This is probably because of a downed server or an invalid header.info

You will also want to read the warning about mixing repositories at the
top of http://www.fedora.us/wiki/FedoraHOWTO.

My experience is that one should use packages from either the FreshRPMS
"family" (FreshRPMS, ATrpms, Dag [Axel would comment this one out, but
works-for-me. ;^)], NewRPMS, Dries, ...) OR Fedora.US/Livna but NOT
both.  Only JPackage seems to be sufficiently friendly as to be mutually
compatible.

Many more packages are available from FreshRPMS and friends, but chances
of compatibility problems seem to be greater.  If you use this group you
probably want to join freshrpms-list(a)freshrpms.net.

So! I agree, I'm guilty, I had read but didn't get immediatly the meaning. I
read it now....

OK. I have kept in my yum.conf, only compatible repositories: Fedora.US/Livna
and commented out the others.

2- I have the exact version of faad2 already installed:

AND this package is available in:

http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/1/i386/RPMS.stable/

You excluded them from which server?  It looks to me like you have excluded them from one
server, but not another.

It would also be helpful to pass the "-d" switch to get more debugging output
from yum.  Read about it in "man yum".

No. This line in /etc/yum.conf exclude all packages listed from
update/upgrade... from all servers.

This was the good idea: I could (at last) understand the (almost) cryptic error
message: it means that, as yum want to update faad2 package and as the
installed package is needed by xmms-faad2, this update cannot be done.

The error message was not obvious for me, non English-speaking person.

One mystery remains: why yum wanted to update a package when the installed
version was the last one available on the servers?

Please do not assue you have everything set up right.  Where and what is in your yum
config file?  Give us a copy of it.

Impossible for us to tell, because you provided no information.  Where is the debug
output?
