Hi everyone,

I cant seem to find anyone who can help
I am trying to get our in house app which connects to an SQL2000-ent
sever to run in linux, I have the app running just fine but I cant get
connection to the database,
When you install it in windoze all you have to install is client
connectivity, I have browsed the win dirs on my XP system but there are
no files installed. but it works. 
Cant I use the linux sql to some how get the link.
The other Problem I think I am faced with is the fact that linux doesn't
log into the domain. Is it possible to logon to the windoze domain with
Fedora? 
The  I also need to map the directory to the U drive in my wine folder.

Please if you have any Ideas I will be throwing a party on your behalf.

for the case you have a win-domain-server, try on your linux-client

join" in the shell

I work on a linux box in W2K domain.
When I log on the linux box I use the same userid and password of the
windows domain and I can acces to the domain.
Then to view a remote volume I mount it by:
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxxxxxxx,password=xxxxxxxxxx //fileserver/d
/home/massimo/D_on_fileserver

I indeed run a session script to make it easy, copy this to a text file
saving without any extension and then in preference/sessions insert the
link to the script.

#!/bin/bash
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxxxxxxx,password=xxxxxxxxxx //fileserver/d
/home/massimo/D_on_fileserver

Chad,

I have not used wine much, but I do know SQL Server pretty well.  I am
unsure as to whether wine supports the needed APIs.  What can you tell
me about the app?  I assume it is using ADO, since that is Micro$oft's
preferred method, though you can use other means to connect.  Have you
tried installing the latest MDAC (Micro$oft Data Access Components)? 
You can download them from Micro$oft's website.  Got to
http://www.microsoft/com/downloads and search for MDAC.

I'd try getting connectivity working with SQL Server authentication
first, then worry about using Integrated Security (authentication
through the domain).

This is not really a Fedora topic though.  Any more than this and I
would suggest that we take correspondence off-list.  You may find the
mailing lists for wine a little more helpful:

Are you running it using wine?  Anyway, in all seriousness, if the
application is simple to moderate complexity, you might consider
building a web interface in php. While this may cause a few headaches
and late nights in the short run, if you are going to be running the app
on multiple platforms, this might ultimately be the best solution in the
long run.

It depends on what your app is using for a middleware layer. 
If it's JDBC then it should work on Linux no problem.

If it's ADO or ODBC i'm not sure.

ODBC can be gotten to work. however, there's not nearly enough
information about the application here to give much useful
advice.

most of my experience goes the other way, getting Access to work
as a window on PostgreSQL through ODBC drivers.

Can you give any more details on the app?  If its something that was 
coded in house, you may want to have a look at FreeTDS.org.  I have used 
it several times to do linux -> MS-SQL connections and the setup isn't 
as painful as you might think.

I have freetds0.62.1 and DBD-Sybase1.02 installed. It has taken wee bit
of tweaking and I [not knowing much about databases] think its working.
When the app called Xalt comes up it lists the database connection when
you click on it it switches the list to none, seems like an domain
authentication prob.
I assume that I have to be logged into the windows domain to overcome
this. But I will play a bit more with it before I know for sure!
