email program on fedora

Hi,

Can anyone recommend an email program for fedora ?  I would like to 
have a stand-alone email client that can connect to multiple email 
accounts including hotmail ?

Evolution can handle multiple accounts (and multiple types of accounts),
but it can't handle Hotmail, I'm afraid.  GAIM, the instant messenger
client, can alert you when you have new Hotmail, and open it up in a
browser for you though.

Yahoo used to make their webmail available via POP -- they may still do,
for a fee.

Fedora offers several email clients. You can use Evolution (My
Favourite), Kmail, Sylpheed or balsa. They all can connect to several
email accounts. In order to be able to fetch email from Hotmail you have
to use the package Hotwayd (http://hotwayd.sourceforge.net/).

I forgot to say that all this email programs are able to retrieve emails
from pop3 accounts as well as imap4 accounts.

Ben as you see from my email in the header yahoo in Australia run free 
pop mail. they whinge at 7MB capacity ( a weeks fedora-list) and want to 
charge $8mth >100MB

I use mozilla 1.6 mail, sometimes Thunderbird.

Interesting.  According to their omnipresent advertisments, they want to
charge me $19.95/yr for the ability to use POP to access my mail.  It's
not worth it to me personally.  IMAP is the way to go.  Besides, my
Yahoo address has been a spamtrap for years.

I personally prefer mozilla -mail (hopefully soon to be thunderbird and 
a little more separate from the browser.

Evolution's outlook-like attempt to integrate calendaring into email 
bugs me and confuses my users (since we have a separate enterprise 
calendaring tool).

KMail for KDE.  Mozilla has one built-in or you can download Thunderbird from 
www.mozilla.org.  Then there's Sylpheed, mutt, Balsa and probably others I've 
overlooked.

Get hold of mozilla mail on your windows box, import your Outhouse stuff
into that and get it to export back out as something Ev will understand.
I remember seeing a link while I was looking at something else. A quick
google will help you there.

No, but I think there's a program somewhere out there called "Outport" 
which will convert the PST file to something more usable.

I would just transfer folders to and from an imap server.. (outlook ->
imap-server -> evolution)

Forgive me, but how or where should I find info on doing as you suggested. I
have tried the outport method, and it seemed to only make .txt files of all
my messages.

Your suggestion appears simple, but I do not know how to do as you suggest.

Hello Jim,

To follow Satishs' instruction (and a very workable one at that) you 
would need access to an account on an e-mail server which supports the 
IMAP protocol. The system admin. of the e-mail server would be able to 
tell you if the server supports IMAP.

Once you have this, you would set up the connection/account to the IMAP 
server in Outlook Express, then drag and drop the folders/messages from 
OE to the server (this is one of the features IMAP has over POP).   Once 
the messages are on the IMAP server, then you would set up the same 
connection/account in the destination e-mail client and drag and drop 
again into your e-mails' new home.
