Linksys WMB54G Wireless-G Music Bridge

For a change, I need some help. I have a Linksys WMB54G Wireless-G
Music Bridge coming, and I wounder if there is any software to
stream music to it from Linux. I want to play with it for a while
before passing it on to my brother. (If I can get it working well
with Linux, he may have to get his own!)

Does anyone here have any experience, good or bad, using it with
Linux? The only Google hits I found were not in English...

never tried it but possibly mt-daapd package

Freshmeat.net suggests things like 'firefly' and 'tangerine'

If the DAAP servers that Craig mentioned don't work you could try 
running the Linksys software using Wine.

fwiw - I installed mt-daapd package (which is apparently what they now
call 'Firefly') and it works.

Thanks Craig. I'll let you know how it works with the WMB45G after
it gets here.

curiously enough, iTunes on my Windows desktop system sees the shared
daap server but times out when connecting. Songbird on that very same
computer (had to add daap-client application) connected right away and
played music no problems from the mt-daapd server.

Rhythmbox on my Linux desktop connected and played music from the
mt-daapd server with little coaxing required (which I sort of expected)
but also gags when trying to play music from the same iTunes/Windows
setup. Turning Windows Firewall off or poking hole in firewall on port
3689 (both tcp & udp) didn't make any difference either way (which makes
sense since Songbird worked). 

So it seems as though everything played nicely together except my
Windows based iTunes. I'll check out the Windows version on my netbook
but it's nice to have the Songbird fallback because what makes sense to
me is to leave the netbook plugged into my surround sound system
sometimes. Then again, normally I boot into Linux on my netbook and
Rhythmbox will clearly work.

I don't think running the Linksys software for the WMB54G under Wine
will help. The software grabs the audio stream at the sound card via
software, and redirects it to the bridge. I am trying to get it to
work unded VirtualBox running XP, but no luck so far. It does work
on my dual boot laptop under XP.

I did find a couple of interesting things - it is a true bridge - it
bridges the wireless and wired NICs, so you can use it to connect a
wired network segment to a wireless AP. I kind of with I have got a
couple more just for that. (It will even pass DHCP traffic across
the bridge.)

The other interesting thing is that it runs Linux. I am looking at
the source code now. So far, the most enlightening part has been the
kernel build options. This is going to be interesting.
