Your goals in the Fedora Project

What do you want to write about?
I am very open to this topic. I am trying to learn more about
linux. I am currently in the process of trying to
set up a web, mail, dns server so that I can expand my skill
set.

What other documentation do you want to see published?
None currently, but I have done a couple of FAQ for my employers
(Past / Present)

Do you want to edit for grammar/writing and/or technical
accuracy?
I would be open to either. grammer / writing is how I
discovered the project

What other projects or writing have you worked on in the past?
I have done a master's thesis and a couple FAQ's.

What level and type of computer skills do you have?
I am not a novice, but I am not guru either. I put my skills in
the more
advanced level. I can set up most types of machine, I have
built my own
machines. I have set up a couple of servers with RH 9.

What other skills do you have that might be applicable? User
interface design, other so-called soft skills (people skills),
programming,
etc.
I have a fair amount of people skills, I have done tech support
for a long time. I am currently learning more about
HTML / CSS. I am hoping to take a couple java script classes in
the future.

I introduce myself

My name is Francesco Ugolini, i'm an Italian Fedora Ambassador (on
probing) and i have decided to help the Fedora Community to export
the power of this system everywhere.
I've seen that many documents are only in english so my first task
were to traduce the FC4 install guide in italian. This is the reason
i've joined to this group to talk about my progress and to be
connected with other translator.
Currently i've traduced the begginig, first chapter (in .txt format
not in xml, but i'm working on) and the chapter 7 (in .xml).

It's been suggested that a good beginner task for me would be to
proofread and edit the FAQ and related pages
(http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAQ). I am happy to take that on.
I've read the pages about writing using the wiki and wiki editing. It's
left me with the impression that perhaps the FAQ should be broken into
pages instead of being one long page.
What do people think of this potential change? Is there a standard way
to lay out a multi-page FAQ? I am imagining that the table of contents
would be one page. Each of the six main topics would also become a page.
I have some business travel coming up that probably will keep me from
doing any editing until the weekend. I would very much appreciate
people's comments and advice in the meantime.

Uh ... I guess that's the only sensible answer. Everything else would

Highlights:

* Karsten: E-mail with details on licensing documents with the OPL will
be sent to the mailing lists.
* Tommy: The translations within each CVS module will be split into
separate directories, one per language. This requires the migration of
the main translations infrastructure to completed first. Once complete
the documentation package building infrastructure will also need to be
updated.
* Paul: RPMs for documentation now build from CVS. The resulting
packages needed to be checked for correctness. A new package group will
also need to be created for documentation packages. Once these items
have been completed the packages can be added to Fedora Extras.

Keep in mind CVS is also responsible for some of this filename cruft,
since it moves locally modified copies to ".#filename.N.N" (actually,
all of it, for those of us who use Emacs' auto-save-file-name-p
function)! ;-)

ready to move languages to sub-folders

Ok, I give. The module is getting full.
I think we have at least through FC5 using the current translation
system. This means all actions occurring in
cvs.fedora:/cvs/docs/release-notes.
Tommy or Paul, can we work up moving the individual languages to their
own sub-dirs?
release-notes/*-en.xml
/it/*-it.xml
/ja_JP/*-ja_JP.xml
/pa/*-pa.xml
/ru/*-ru.xml
/zh_CN/*-zh_CN.xml
...
If we can do this ASAP, it can happen before the translators 'cvs up'
for the test3 content freeze. Otherwise, we can wait a few weeks and
work it up for FC5 proper.
