It depends on the manner in which information is being transferred.
In terms of the machine itself, its OS and your files, Linux is
probably significantly safer because of the system permission and file
ownership restrictions. For web-based information where common malware
and trojan tools rely on browser security and things like javascript
implementations then there is a much more level playing field.
If you're accessing your own data then using a VPN is much safer, if
you're accessing 'cloud' services then even with TLS/SSL it's not
guaranteed to be safer on Linux.
